We just got back from DS’s dodmerb physical. He said they did not do a urinalysis and he was surprised. Is a urinalysis not usually part of the exam or we will we be going back? Thx!

They did them last year.

I am shocked that candidates are even having DoDMERB exams already.
I swear that my DS hadn't had his DoDMERB physical until September or October last year.

Urinalysis has not been required for a few years, but not all facilities got the message. Some still take samples even though they don't have to - maybe because clinics do physicals for several sources other than SA admissions.

DodMerb relies heavily on the questionnaire and then asks for additional information or testing based on those answers. The exam was once very thorough with blood/urine tests, EKG, etc.

DS '21 was the last mandatory year from what I see. Rampant false positive results for glucose and/or protein leading to needless remedials; much of which was simply caused by short term diet / workout supplements etc.

They never used this for drug screening as far as I know - you will get that on R/I day.

Be happy they dropped it.

Neither my '18 or '19 were required to take the urinalysis. I would refuse to provide a specimen, for the reasons MidwestDad mentions above. Even though not required, if it is sent in, DoDMERB will look at it and require remedials if something is off.

My DS has his DODMERB exam in the morning. While he was printing off his question package I noticed on the physician instructions -Urinalysis- "Stick test". Is this the or glucose/ protein read? He is in the middle of summer baseball and is either practicing or playing most everyday. If he refuses the urinalysis, or politely tell the physician that a urinalysis is no longer needed, could it cause his file to show incomplete or a refusal to the DODMERB officials? Has anyone had their DS/DD refuse?
