How do MSA (Military Service Academy) count foreign language?

Student went to a dual program/school and took all of high school foreign language by 8th grade with good score.

During High school, he doesn’t have any more class to take and he wants to concentrate on other subjects. Will MSA count back to Middle School for high school equivalent classes? Or student needs to repeat the classes to show on his record enough 2 years of foreign language?
 
You might want to reach out to a field force rep in your area for an answer to this question. You don't mention which service academy you are looking at - the answer may vary with the service academy.
 
I have a child that took three years of French in 6th-8th grade and the courses are listed as high school credit classes. I am interested also to see if the academy, any academy, but particularly the USAFA will accept as same as if taken in 10th-12th grade?
 
You won't know unless you ask. One option to 'credential' those classes and prove that they were taught at a high level is to have your child take a CLEP exam. That will confer college credit and if you child passes it (with a score between 50 - 80) then that would likely be acceptable. My son had CLEP credits on his transcript. You can likely schedule this exam at your local county college.

I would ask the high school if it shows up on their high school transcript. A call to admissions is in order as well, but I expect they'll ask the transcript question in determining the answer.
 
I spoke to our ALO and asked about middle school foreign language classes that count as high school credit-will the academies accept? He was unsure. First time he could not answer our question we had. He advised he would find out. We are only in 10th grade so we have a year before we apply.
 
Well it appears no one is available to answer this one. Our ALO does not know:) Says he has never been asked this one before about middle school high school level foreign language classes counting on your USAFA application and going towards the foreign language prerequisite. Surely this has come up before?
 
Did you find out if it shows up on the high school transcript? The high school transcript is what gets sent to the academy, not the middle school transcript. You can indicate somewhere in the application the middle school language.

If the ALO can't help, try calling admissions. Alternatively you can take you chances as see what happens.

I strongly doubt this has come up before. I took a foreign language in middle school. I still took it again in high school. Tested out in college.

There must be a way for your son to take a proficiency test or equivalent exam in that language in your area. My son took 4 years of German in his high school. Last year he took German proficiency exam (reading, writing, and listening) and received a high pass which translated to 4 elective credits at local university. During the first week of CBT at West Point this summer, he took the placement exams for Computer Science and German he is placed in upper level classes with upper class men. The placement exams are available in various subjects and it is up to the new cadets to decide which subjects to take and not mandatory. Now they are in the academic year, the plebes are very busy with their classes and other duties that they have to do/learn besides academic.
 
It would seem that if lanaguage is a high school requirement and the middle school language classes were high school equivalent, logically they must be somewhere on the high school transcripts. If not, based on transcripts, the student wouldnt qualify to graduate. Somewhere in the records, they must show up. It is like my wifes college transcripts. They do include as a special line item, her scores from the 2 years she spent in community college.
