DS submitted his application last night. We are now Complete Pending Review :)

So the hurry up and wait begins......

@BBQ-Devil

You bet... DD was a re-app then Appointment to USAFA. Two years of waiting. Why not.... DS was re-app then Appointment to USNA another 2 years of waiting. Cracks me up when I think about it.

I will NEVER forget when they called me having received there notice. Tears of joy all around.

Buckle up my friend it’s a marathon

And now you have lots of time to work on nominations and Plan B and Plan C and Plan D.... Lucky you! Best wishes.

CPR was a relief for my DS as well, I recall. Then there was the waiting.

Nominations are indeed the next hurdle.
Both senators, your district's Representative, the VPOTUS, and possibly POTUS (if you or your DS' Mom meet the service-related requirements to garner a POTUS nomination).

Urge him to make sure he's got those all squared away, because typically they all have different due dates and requirements.

Yep. Those are all next along with USAFA, USCGA, NROTC, AFROTC, and the five civilian colleges. Lots still to do.

But CPR is good to see.

On a side note, there was another thread about early submission versus turning everything in later. FWIW, when we were at NASS, both the admission panel and the parent's panel stressed how getting things in early was an advantage as the first board meets in September. I don't have any way of knowing how much this helps (if any) but I pushed DS to get everything in nonetheless.

+1 to BBQ-Devil. The best way I’ve heard it said is this: Submit as early as you can, with the best application package that you can. Said another way, if waiting a couple months would significantly improve your package (e.g. higher SAT score, better CFA stats), then wait a couple months. An early but mediocre package is still a mediocre package.

DS should be CPR soon, still waiting on DodMerb clearance and his math teacher. She did his USAFA eval but not USNA or USMA yet.

How did you get DODMERB going? My DS has everything in except waiting on transcript to get processed on portal. Letters, essays and personal data, CFA,BGO interview, etc all in but when he tried to access Dodmerb (really it says "DODMERB status") from his portal he got stuck. Does your application being finished trigger something for the DODMERB process to begin??? I should know this as I have a current Firstie who does not remember!!

candidate should receive an email from DoDMETS with link to fill out questionnaires and begin the DoDMERB process. DS received email In early July. He had teacher Rec’s in, ACTs and CFA from NASS when he got the email.

Yes a long process with a lot of steps and a lot of waiting. I strongly encourage you to let DS or DD take the lead, but follow up with them often. My DS hated that I kept asking about his status and said”I’ll let you know when I find anything out.” Your DS or DD might not know how to navigate some of the medical processing. A good suggestion might be to set up a weekly update from DS or DD. Working on plan A, B, C...can be a good distraction. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

I'm not sure the exact trigger for Dodmerb and this is my third to go through the process. I do think both USAFA and USNA submitted his info about the same time though as he got two emails from DodMets about a day or so apart.

To Landlock: The transcript is a pretty big missing piece — the biggest? — and a reasonable rationale for not moving to DODMERB yet.

Agree 100% with DoubledeuceDad: Please let your DS/DD take the lead, with parents checking in once a week. There are many rewards and benefits to taking this approach. Mom and Dad, time to land that helicopter!

That’s great, lamdlock. Message was meant for the masses, not you specifically. As the dad of a midshipman, I see a lot of parental chatter on social media. I’m amazed — flabbergasted, actually — at the amount of helicopter traffic there is above USNA. Really makes me wonder, as these are the parents of our best and brightest. But it’s a discussion for another day and another thread. I’m sorry if I offended you, as it certainly was not my intent.

You are right about too much helicoptering. I see this all the time as well from my profession, my sisters who are public school teachers, and my dad who is a baseball coach at a university.
My DD did this 4 years ago successfully and with no help. Her first trip ever to the
academy was with a grandparent as my wife and I were working. She actually demanded to go to the BGO and nom interview alone. I found out about a club she started at our local high school from one of her siblings (large family!) after she was already gone.
I actually get asked very few questions by my current applicant child, he usually goes to his sister who has thrived at the USNA, or her midshipman buddies who he has gotten to know, or his brother who is a civilian college grad for essay proof reading. None of them knew the answer.

Wish this site had thumbs down for posts. As the last few need them. As somone said: worry more about the wolves biting at your sled and not those howling in the distance.

I read this three times (and the last few posts above yours), and I still don't know what you're driving at.

We saw the words complete pending review until the middle of April. Then waited until 3rd week of May as was waitlisted. Reapplying again. Long wait for sure.

FYI - DS received DoDMET email without having his transcript in. He had CFA, teacher recs, ACT/SATs in when email came. No idea what triggers it.
