Can I still join army rotc if I have asthma if I can't join rotc of having asthma can I get a waiver for asthma ?
 
Asthma is a DQ, but there is a possibility for a waiver as long as it doesn't affect daily functions or exercise to an extent that you would put yourself and others in danger.

Who do I need to talk about the waiver ?
 
Some clarifications...
  • You can ENROLL in AROTC (BASIC) as an MS-1 cadet without any medical exam and no contract is required.
  • To receive a scholarship contract or non-scholarship contract, you will need to pass both the APFT and DODMERB.
  • You cannot move forward to the ADVANCED program (junior and senior year) without a contract.
  • Asthma can DQ you from passing DODMERB, but Army Cadet Command can review your file for a waiver if your cadre requests that your file be considered.

Read the DODMERB forum here on SAF, especially the Stickies at the top. There is a complete process for submitting a medical history, getting a physical, having a Q or DQ determination made, if DQ the opportunity to submit any remedial documents requested, and then the Service determination if a waiver is offered. Your ROTC battalion staff can advise you.

Many AROTC unit websites have info on the process. Here’s are a few below. Though one is a few years old, it’s good description.

What do you mean by school? The admissions office of the college? The ROO? The PMS? Please communicate with specificity.

If by "recruiting office" you mean the local Army recruiter, then STOP TALKING TO THEM!

If you are interested in Army ROTC, the ONLY person to speak with is the ROO at the College ROTC program. The local recruiting officer on Main street knows very little about ROTC and is primarily tasked with recruiting enlisted personnel.

ROO = College ROTC enrollment officer = ROTC Recruiting Operations Officer. This person is based ON CAMPUS at the college ROTC office.
