DS is applying to USAFA and then Norwich AFROTC as Plan B. If he doesn't get an ROTC scholarship, does Norwich stack? Our EFT is about $30,000, which is what the price tag would come down to with his probable merit scholarship. I would hope they would give at least some of the merit aid on top of financial aid, but you never know. All of this number crunching is keeping me up at night lol. Thanks!

Depends on his award from the Air Force. If he is Type 1 then hooray. Type 2 Norwich is pretty good about awarding the difference from merit based funds for tuition only. Norwich also has generous monies for kids who turn paperwork early, for Eagle Scouts, work study and pain old clerks.
Norwich does give the ID White scholarship which is strictly for room and board for contracted cadets.

For Eagle Scouts? I asked our admissions rep about Eagle Scout consideration and was specifically told there were none. Can you specify what award(s) you are aware of?

It's by invitation only every year based upon volunteer hours (those Eagle Project hours get attention) and an interview process through Civic Engagement.
Yes, I've tried the calculator, but it looks like the merit aid would just replace any need-based financial aid. I was wondering if anyone here had gotten need-based aid + merit aid if they didn't get any ROTC scholarship. I know we'll find out once we send everything in, but I was hoping for some examples. Thanks!

My son got both need-based and merit.

He is there now on a break between Adv GenCyber camp and Rook Week! He is excited and prepared. Between campus NU101 visit, local send-off parties and social media he has a large group of Rook siblings as support. He is also a volunteer on campus so he won't be bored at all! Feel free to PM me anytime.
My son does not have an ROTC scholarship and the awards were stacked based on merit and need.... plus a few scholarships for community service and early paperwork. If he is awarded an in college ROTC scholarship, I’m told the merit scholarship goes away, but the ID white kicks in and covers room and board. I also believe that Norwich will award aid to cover tuition that is not covered by an ROTC scholarship. The financial aid office is very helpful with questions.

Hi I am at norwich as a Rook right now, I got need and merit based scholarships, My experiences are good for the most part, the corp is a lot different now.

Please plan a trip to visit if you haven't. The NU101 events are great fun (your son will need a sleeping pad and bag).
DS sent a text home from his saying "This is Plan A now." Which was awesome to hear. Mid-semester and he is tired and busier than he has ever been before but finding support from NU and the community in every way. Your kids just have to ask for what they need.
He did an overnight visit in March & Future Leader Camp this past summer. He actually had his AFROTC interview today, so we shall see. He said it "didn't go badly" lol. Plan A is still USAFA, but Norwich is Plan B with or without ROTC money. We are in southern Massachusetts, so not too far from VT. DS will be a 3rd generation career Airman, and we are all super proud of him!
What do you mean by the corp is alot different now? Just wondering.

He is referring to the difficulty and rigor of the Corps of Cadets. Each year rules are modified and changed which results in a different experience that each rook gets from year to year.
That's good to know. When we dropped our DS off at Future Leader Camp this summer he wasn't expecting it to be that disciplined. Then we got the first phone call. He spoke more in 15 minutes than he has in the last 15 years lol. He is still really excited about the Corps of Cadets, plus he did some great activities like rappelling and water survival.

I can relate to that. When I went to FLC 5 years ago I was the same way! Is he a current rook or incoming rook next year?
He will either be an incoming rook at Norwich or at USAFA. I'm leaning more towards Norwich, but only because I want him closer for the next 4 years before he goes Active Duty. I was an Air Force wife for 16 years, so I know from experience he will be far from home for many years. Hoping he gets stationed in Japan so we can visit. We never made it further west than Hawaii. I see you're a 2LT. Are you enjoying the AF life? We went to a lot of great places, including Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii & a NATO base in the Netherlands. Lots of great travelling around Europe, too!
FLC alumni (without an ROTC scholarship) receive a $2000 per year scholarship from the school on top of other need or merit based scholarships.
