I am all about Innocent until proven guilty. My only concern is how this process will work for the kids submitting their applications for MOC Nominations. My DS is a reapplicant who received a Nom last year but is currently at the USAFA Prep School. Before he left for Prep he spoke with the MOC Office Nom Coordinator and they advised him he still has to resubmit his application & they would phone interview him this year. He prepared his packet before he left for Prep and I was/am taking to him Parents Weekend so it can be mailed from the Academy. He does not know about this yet as it just came out late yesterday.. I do not want to stress him out. I am sure this has happened before or people lose office and new incumbent takes over.. any moderator or if anyone has any advice or previous experience, please share :) Thanks..

If he is at USAFA Prep now, his chances are pretty good (about 90%) that he will get an Offer of Appointment to USAFA upon graduation.
I would expect that with the Congressman's office in flux, the resubmit of his application and the phone interview will be pretty much a slam dunk. I was under the impression however, that USAFA Prep graduates who do well there, almost always get into USAFA and it's only the ones who decide "to follow a different path" (I.E. go to a civilian college) who part ways with a path toward the Academy. I will follow this thread though, because I'm not sure if my assumption is correct now. The fact that you're suggesting that he has to get nominated again, has thrown me for a loop here.

I just have to say that the news reporting of the indictments of (Reps. Chris Collins of New York and Duncan Hunter of California) was a little skewed. The news reported this story as "The First 2 Congressmen To Endorse Trump Have Been Indicted". That's not biased in the least.
Hoo boy.

Totally, and you know reporters love to skew everything to make their story better. Insert eye roll. While I will pay attention I will not rush to judgment. But it doesn't look good
I was not able to be at the drop off for my DS, but heard they told the parents who were there, they would have some assistance,. However, not everyone makes it through. It's best to secure your own nomination from every source available to you. Wondering since now he is in the Reserves and considered currently active duty does that open up a Presidential? I'm thinking no. I have read on here that some MOC saves the reapplicants packets for the next year, especially those who know they are going to Prep. Although, I am sure every MOC Nomination office/board is run differently.

Unlikely to affect a Prep student for reasons stated above. It could affect other candidates if the MOC resigns (or is o/w removed from office) prior to the normal election cycle (i.e., leaves in January). As a general rule, candidates with noms aren't impacted if the MOC is defeated or retires b/c the outgoing MOC submits his/her slate in Jan. before leaving and the new MOC's first goal is typically not trying to redo the slate in 10 days and, in the process, totally p--- off a bunch of new constituents.

If, however, a MOC dies, resigns or o/w leaves office before submitting a slate, the situation becomes more complicated. I would suggest NOT fixating on whether this could happen as that's a waste of energy. There's also nothing anyone can do until/unless it does happen. If it DOES happen to you, contact the SA coordinator for the outgoing/deceased MOC immediately and ask for information on what will happen.

The best advice is to submit your nomination paperwork and keep close tabs on the situation in case you need to resubmit paperwork to a new MOC - and make sure you have applied for all other possible nomination sources. That is the only thing you can control.

In this situation, the nomination process is controlled by the individual MOC until he resigns or is removed from office. If that occurs, a new MOC will have control of the process after assuming office and can continue the process/recommendations of the old MOC or start the process over. I suspect a new MOC would choose the easiest path given the collapsing time frame and all of the other priorities involved.

Not Presidential - that is for "Children of Career Military". As an Active Duty member, I think that they do qualify for the Secretary of the Navy (or Air Force) noms.

Do the paperwork, proceed as if nothing has changed because...nothing has. An indictment is simply a notification that a grand jury thinks there's enough evidence to proceed to trial; it doesn't mean anyone is guilty.

The process will proceed as normal; this has happened before, it's not for you to worry. The SA's handle this.

All reapplicants including prep schoolers need a current NOM. Everyone reapplying is told to apply for every nomination source you are eligible for. So for prep schoolers, If a NOM can’t be obtained from your MOC or any other source, the Academy will more than likely “find” one ( ie Supe ).
As stated, those who attended prep school, did well, and wish to attend the Academy, have a very high rate of receiving their appointment and nominations.
Stress less about your MOCs legal situation and focus on preparing for the Academy....

Individuals attending the prep school sign reserve contracts and are in the reserves. The academy directs them to apply for all available nominations so they have options as they fill the class. Members of the reserves are eligible for service connected nominations. If the can slot a prepster against a MOC, they have another slot at the end of the process for some other diversity candidate in the last group of Additional Appointees.

It is not the case that they may find them a nomination if they really want them but is more they are eligible for multiple nominations. Complete all of the paperwork that is requested and as long as your son does "his part" while at prep, he will be a member of the class of 2023.
