So DS was sent the form o-220 to test his body fat. Not surprised I have dense kids. Anyway, the nurse did the test today and measured his height about an inch shorter than Dodmerb. Because of that his numbers are 17.9% to 18.1% depending on the calculator I use. Does anyone know what calculator USAFA uses? Will he be asked to retest for 18.1%? Or is it DQ and hope for a waiver?

If he is going to play football or some other beefcake sport, I would have to guess they have some sort of waiver.

Nope not a football player. There is a waiver I'm just wondering if they would ask for a retest first, or depending on the calculator used he might be fine. And if they use his Dodmerb height he'd be fine then too.

Maybe he shrunk. It has been very hot and humid. ;)

At this point in the process I doubt it will be an issue if he's a little off the mark. after he reports it will matter. In the meantime he can lose a few pounds and build up that muscle mass to avoid the issue, if he is asked to re-tape. I suppose he can even grow an inch or two more! :D

My DS in the Corps always has to be taped. He's all muscle and always weighs in over-weight. He never has a problem with being taped. Evidently it's fairly common in the Corps.

His older brother is always taped too and has actually grown over an inch since I day 2017. He's just worried because the standard is 18% and he's right there. I know he will be thinner in a few months but he's a swimmer and they have just started back to training after break and vacation. He's one of those kids that will go up and down in weight pretty quick based on training.

Just an update. Body fat was within standards. :) Now back to enjoying PW!

DS will do his on Tuesday! 2.5hrs away football game tonight south of us... DS is hydrating pedialyte all week. Besides the salt and sugar, water will add more in the scale. He felt like he needed to loss body fluid this week and watch his sweet n carbs. Then start pedialyte again for next Friday game. Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

My son also has to tape for AFA. He was 1 lb over. No one would ever guess he weighs what he does - especially the beefy lineman across from him in football.

Enjoy your weekend!

Son shows qualified on the portal of AFA but he is still going to complete the tape test. It was just surprising to see qualified yet need taped.

My brother-in-law, a Marine, needs taped every time as a weightlifter. He even runs with someone on his back as a joke and still passes. Last time he needed to meet with a panel of NCOs due to requiring to be taped every time... Gunny took one look at him and laughed and said "GTFO here." Lol

Same here... "potential pilot qualified" but need to complete tape test and school nurse can not do it. He is going to miss class period to see his Pediatrician:(

Son’s trainer for football completed his form. The irony is now he is below the weight limit due to football and intense heat.

Thank you! but DS don't have that problem. He can not loss any weight...his mid lineman offence n defense and one more..he don't rest only when timeout and water break. or when someone has a cramp or hurt:( thx again!

My son is a defensive end and running back. He isn’t losing weight on purpose but it’s been insanely hot here with high humidity. I need to cook more! Ha!

SO, if he doesn't pass the tape test, then he has decisions to make regarding losing weight and/or playing football. Sometimes you can't have it all.

Son ended up with 13.6% body fat which didn’t surprise me. He’s a muscular kid.

At the height of weightlifting and d-lineman days, my boy was burning 8,000 calories a day and it was a full time job for him to eat that much to keep up... when he announced making weight for dodmerb was more important and dropped his intake to ultimately lose 50 pounds.. My wallet cheered :D
