Jack-of-All Trades: Chemistry, Engineering and Beyond

Blue Baron,

I suggest you take the time to read a lot of posts on here and try to digest it all. You are coming from 20 different directions at once and writing what looks to be a lot of nonsense. Have you really gone over in your mind what 4 years at USAFA will be like as well as the 5-12+ years after graduation that you will serve?

We are here to answer your question, even the most basic ones. But, in all honesty, you come across as someone who is not at all prepared for USAFA. You state your standardized test scores aren’t that competitive but you’re going to get a “curb-stomping” one next time. You’re a management major in college but you want to double or triple major in STEM degrees at USAFA. You don’t have any organized team school sports, just hobby ones. As far as leadership roles, I can’t glean much from your posts due to the frenetic style.

I’m trying to be honest but not close the door on you. Slow it down and read what is required. Improve your resume, don’t just tell us that you know you can. Then, ask questions

You’re correct about the definition of “ace.” And your second question answers your first question.
"but even having the opportunity to shoot down 5 enemy aircraft hasn't been bestowed"

I misread the original comment. I thought it said even those who had the opportunity to shoot down 5 enemy aircraft had not received that title. Instead of course it actually says that no one has had the opportunity to shoot down five aircraft. Oops

@Stealth_81
Thanks.
I was just now editing resume to send it to ALO.

1)I imagine what awaits me there and beyond. And It excites me. I'm doing the best that can to be more than able by then, be it by training full body and 3.5km run 6 times a week, never missing Judo/Swimming/Wrestling practice no matter my state, and daily classes study sessions, even between breaks, thus keeping up discipline, dedication and passion, cuz I do enjoy it. Sleepless, hurt or otherwise.

2) Thing is I took the test not even fresh out of high school and was the so called big fish kid and had been hip hip hurrayed so much(barely studied) that didn't even studied or looked it up. Had stayed late playing to boot. Was just a quiz for me back then.
Compare that now to someone who really cares for it and knows way more.

3) But I prefer Management more as recreation. I enjoy STEM more as a career. As kid and now(Been very active ACS member for a while) have been active in it. Be it experiments, clubs, fairs and other activities. And I plan to not just "barely made it alive" but thrive there by filling up on STEM courses and studying them on the side and during spring break.
That's why I asked of the Degrees since now. Want to know where to focus.

Organized sports..If you mean Varsity or College Team and not some tournaments, I currently practice Judo & Wrestling in college in the heavyweight division. And to excel I do what mentioned in the first point. Currently the strongest in the team.

As for leadership..(funny the frenetic part) more than not I end up being the class group leader. In clubs no matter my position tend to have deferred authority. During tournaments and friendly matches tended to be the captain and have also been referee. In other areas consulting. For example "let's ask B.B." "B.B, what you think of ______" "What's your advice?" A lot of decision deferrals.

What you think?
And should I post my USAFA focused resume here(with the more personal innfo removed)?

I would say no - the members of this forum, while supportive, do not know you well enough to provide insightful feedback on your résumé.

Google USAFA Course Handbook 2018. It will be an extremely valuable resource for you to understand the different majors better. You'll also be able to see the course sequences and get a feel for the breadth and depth of each major.

College.
By AP I mean that I qualified to take AP(Honor Roll?) courses in College for all General Studies..except Math. 430 math. 1290 but like said, curb-stomp:cool:

@Hoodlum15
Thanks for that. Like USAFA even more. Read it almost whole and now know what gonna take(even some elective courses and when to)

Double Biochem/M.E. and if Possible Triple with MSS. Electives on the other courses if all goes well.

I have a question:

In it it says " At least one of these credits must be accomplished in a military program under the Commandant of Cadets (in bold in the list below).  Any commander selected from the Command Selection Board"

What is Command Selection Board and what it means? Could not find it in handbook nor web

What does that even mean? One doesn't take AP courses in college. I further assume the math portion of the SAT is going to curb stomp you? Use English please, unless it's your second language, in which case use your first language and I'll run it through google translate.

Sheesh, @The Blue Baron, I think you’re starting to wear people out. I don’t doubt your positive intentions and appreciate your passion for USAFA. But I believe it’s time to chill out. As a couple folks said above, you’re on like step 19 of a 3,724-step process. Said another way, you’re putting about 39 horses before the cart. Get your offer of appointment first — that’s hard enough — then start worrying about triple-majoring and validating courses and trying to get AP credit in college.

I say this very respectfully: If you present yourself in the ALO interview and MOC interviews and application essays the way you do here, you’ve got quite an uphill path ahead of you. That said, I do wish you the best.

It's lack of flawless writing like expected of a future cadet and officer.

By AP I mean that I took all my general studies classes in the Advanced or Honor Level. Same for one Biology. Chemistry and others courses could have same but did not.

Curb-Stomp as in that I will pass the SAT with 1580 or 1600.

@MidCakePa Thanks. I shall do my utmost to polish that part. And prioritize wisely.

I'm going to echo what others are saying that you're getting ahead of yourself. It's awesome to be excited, but your focus is on the wrong thing. ALL incoming freshmen will take 5 or 6 classes their first semester. It doesn't matter what you want. It doesn't matter if you want to load up for a triple major. That's what you get. And then the cool thing about that is that, once you get here, you'll have an entire semester to figure out your course load for the next semester! And you'll have resources like an academic advisor and upperclassmen who can guide you on what classes to take and what you can and cannot do. You'll also have a better feel for life here and what you can manage. Many cadets feel they are absolutely drowning with the course load for one major. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SETTLE ON A MAJOR RIGHT NOW.

I don't even know what you're talking about from the course handbook. Never heard any of those terms and I'm in my 3rd year at USAFA. I say this to drive home my point that you're investigating territory that should be of no concern to you right now. You simply don't have the proper tools and are not currently in the right position to be concerning yourself with these things.

Orient yourself, figure out your goals, and focus your energy on the steps you can take right now.

I was going to stay out of this but I think that this says that someone who got a 430 math SAT is planning to go up to a 780 (required to get a 1580) next time. Is this correct?

Yeah. To give a TL;DR
Unmotivated late-nighter kid who never studied but got 4.0 took SAT with no calc
Vs
Dude who wants to really go to USAFA(A Year in Blue (finished it today) sealed the deal) even though surpassed that math level(I noticed "A Year in Blue" chalkboards and took that math.) BUT still studies to the Max on SAT, ACT and Next semesters classes daily. Gonna Ace it.

Right now I'm at Library.
