ROTC at Colorado School of Mines

I'm trying to go to a SA, but my second option would be ROTC at mines. The OOS (35k) tuition is outrageous at mines. Would I be competitive enough to receive a significant ROTC scholarship?
 
Don’t know. SAT and class rank look pretty good, but have no idea what the rest of your application looks like, and equally important, what your competition looks like. No one here can “chance” you. Best wishes to you.
 
Similar to my son - I think he had 1470 or 1480 SAT. He had a 4-year to Mines.

Army ROTC scholarship will also require athletic and leadership components - just like SAs.

Academically - you are likely in the mix - get the application done.

Lastly, Mines is one of those schools that won't allow you to "stack" scholarships. Their academic awards will apply to tuition only, and will essentially cancel if you use the ROTC for tuition. We never research application of ROTC for Room and Board...but that is possible. Will require some research down the road.
 
Yes, OOS tuition is expensive at Mines, which is an amazing college! There is a school of thought that one should choose a college that is affordable even without the ROTC scholarship. For example, what if you lose the scholarship due to an injury? Or you find out that the military is not for you? By choosing a school that is still affordable, you can remain there even without the scholarship.

The other school of thought is to just move forward and go pedal to the metal!

Thanks for the information, New Mexico School of Mines may be a better option as tuition would be negligible.
 
CO School of Mines is an excellent college and to borrow a phrase above, put the pedal to the medal and be confident you won't lose the scholarship because a school CO School of Mines will have long-lasting benefits. HEck, you can always transfer. We have friends in AROTC there and are really enjoying it - it's a good unit.
And where else can you attend and be 1-2 hours from world class Colorado skiing?
 
CSM is excellent. If I may, a much more inexpensive but excellent alternative is South Dakota School of Mines & Tech. They have Army ROTC. It is an excellent school and until recently, the president of the university was a USAFA graduate, Heather Wilson (now Secretary of the Air Force). There are many direct flights to Rapid City and it is only about 4 hours away from Denver by car. The students and the school are VERY supportive of ROTC.
