Just a curious question of about how many apply and how many are accepted into USMMA each year?

This is from the USMMA admissions website; I won't post the link, but it is easy to find. You'll have to "align" the columns; the SA software doesn't keep the format and I don't have a JPG to upload. Screenshot was too big.

Okay thanks for the info, it seems to me if you complete the application you already have a 30% chance of getting in, and if your not disqualified and you get nominations and appointments, that increases to about 70-80% chance

Technically yes. But everyone starting an application is not invited to finish the application.

The acceptance rate is listed between 11% - 17% depending on the year (going back who knows how far!). I believe that for the academies, it is fourth ranked in terms of acceptance rate.

Do you know which is #5? And I'm assuming you mean in terms of lowest to highest rate?

Coast Guard is #5. Yes lowest acceptance rate to highest in order. :)

Just looked up the latest acceptance rates according to Business Insider:

USNA: 9%
USMA: 10%
USMMA: 15%
USAFA: 17%
USCGA: 18%

So it looks like in 2018, USMMA moved to the #3 spot. :)

That was really interesting to read about, azilmom (I found the Business Insider article). For some reason I always thought USMMA was #5 because it's not very well known.

The 8.5% acceptance rate is an outright lie however you slice it. That's (total acceptances/total number who started the application). A more interesting number would be the (total acceptances/the number who are 3Q'd).

USNA might have have a higher yield than Harvard, but it's obvious that there are a lot more IQ points at Harvard than USNA. If you put the average USNA midshipman into Harvard, I think the results would be disastrous.

I agree the denominator needs to change but it shouldn’t be the number of 3Q.

Harvard brainiacs don’t have to pass a physical exam nor do they have to get a nom. They also don’t have to demonstrate physical fitness.

So, yes. The denominator should be lower than the number of started apps, but definitely not just 3Q. Getting 3Q is a very necessary part of the admissions process that kids fall to the wayside (many times through no fault of their own) due to standards that ivy applicants don’t have to face. THAT has to be accounted for in some fashion in the denominator.

Totally different type of pool of applicants, USNA and Harvard. Literally Apples and Oranges. Yield rate comparison was shown to demonstrate the type of Harvard candidates choosing Harvard and type of Annapolis candidates choosing Annapolis. Annapolis has higher yield means the type of candidates applying to USNA has higher enrollment intent. I went to Harvard and the only candidates Harvard competes with USNA and SAs are the ROTC Candidates which number less than 100 each year out of 40,000 applicants.
