When are AROTC scholarships handed out?

I know there's 3 boards (October 15-19, January 7-11, and March 18-22) but are they given out during the boards? Or after?

If after, how after? Right after? Or weeks?

The board usually takes about a week to do their work. They just score files. That score is used to create an order of merit list and that order of merit list is used by Cadet Command to make offers. That process usually takes a couple weeks. If you are boarded by the first board expect to see first round offers coming out by mid November.

The first board takes a while to respond but the second and third board should be about a week.

Scholarships are not participation trophies, they are awarded, not "handed out".

Thanks for this timeline. My son's application is boarded for next week so now we know when to hopefully see a change in his application status <fingers crossed for WINNER>!

Keep in mind that if one is not awarded a scholarship on the first, or any subsequent, board, then they are automatically re-considered at the next board. You are not informed about the results of a board unless a scholarship is awarded. So.... you may not hear a positive or negative reply until sometime in April. Keep working plans B, C, D, and E. A notification in April is plenty of time to pull the trigger on a plan as long as it's laid out. You don't need to notify colleges about attendance until May 1. Also, one rarely hears about financial aid details until April. The wait can be difficult, but is often necessary. Get that FAFSA done as early as possible next calendar year.

Finally, one can always enroll in a ROTC program without a scholarship, perhaps in hopes of being awarded a scholarship later. This is the path my son took with NROTC-MO after a negative reply in mid-April. He still ended up at his #1 school because of the financial aid package he was offered April 1. He's serving as an officer in the Corps today.
