Appointed Stats?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone who has been appointed (or rejected) to USNA or any SA would be willing to post some of their admission stats (SAT, GPA, Extracurriculars, DoDMERB Qualified/Waiver, CFA, Nomination Source, etc.) I know you can't tell everything about a person from a single post on a forum (that's why there's an application process) but I think it would be somewhat helpful to know. Thanks!

Look at the class profile for the last handful of classes. This gives you the best view into the averages and activities of each class.

Posting individual stats is meaningless, one data point doesn't make a trend, and Candidates need to recognize they are competing with the persons within their Nomination pool(s). If you are looking for a "Chance Me" , you are better off looking at the CLASS PROFILE available on the Admissions website.

the previous years admission threads are helpful, look at that. (class of 2021 admission e.g.)

however, it is only half helpful. are there any stats on the rejected candidates as well?

Doubt you will ever see stats for those rejected. Many open an application and never complete it, so USNA doesn't even have certain information for those applicants. Not sure that information would be of any value, since there are aspects of the application (teacher evaluations, BGO input, etc.) that we will never see, so trying to 'figure out' something from published statistics isn't going to give you the complete picture.

Trying to match stats is along the lines of those 'what are my chances' threads you often see on here.

I posted my DS’s stats somewhere here.. he was rejected to usn in early May. but received a direct appt to CGA. Lots to write..sorry!

Knowing all the stats from everyone rejected and everyone offered an appointment still wouldn't make the waiting any easier.
What if your stats were better than the best stats posted by someone accepted last year?
Would you get in for sure, then? Maybe, and maybe not.
What if your stats were the same as someone who got rejected last year?
Would you get rejected? Maybe, and maybe not.

One thing that's for sure at USNA is that nothing's for sure. The process that Admissions uses this year could be vastly different from last year
because the class they are trying to fill out of this year may be vastly different from the class they built last year. They are concerned with turning out about 1,000 Ensigns to replace the ones who just exchanged their butter bars for silver ones. By 2023, that may mean more Aviators or SWOs or Submariners than the last class. They have it down to a Science, but if you study the Science you know it's all about change.

You apply. You do your best, and get a nomination. You follow through with everything.
You wait for the results.

@MJ2020 Out of curiosity, your son received an appt to CGA last cycle? Your other posts said he is applying to 3 SAs, including CGA. Does that mean he's re-applying or is this a different son?

MJ2020’s “stats” cannot possibly tell the whole story because they are really, really good. Begs the question, “What was the competition on his slates?” What was missing? Etc. I really don’t like the posting of stats because it doesn’t do anything to add any comfort to applicants. I look at MJ2020’s DS stats and I see strong similarities to my DS - but there is nothing actionable- just increases in anxiety.

DS1 is now 2C at CGA. DS2 is applying to 3 academies right now.

We didn’t find out... but it may be a very competitive year. A friend had similar stats was turn down to NA n CGA. My DS was turn down by NA direct acceptance to CGA.

I am a current member of the class of 2022 and was always frustrated at answers like these, so I will lay down my stats as I know that is what you are most likely looking for.

SAT: 1400
Math: 720
English: 680
ACT: 30
3.8/4.0 GPA
Multiple Varsity Letters
Varsity Captain for 2 years
Boys State
Summer Seminar Attendee
President of NHS
Multiple community service organizations involved in
DODMERB qualified with no waivers
Congressional Nomination

THESE ARE JUST MY STATISTICS. THIS IS BY NO MEANS WHAT IS REQUIRED TO GAIN ADMISSION TO USNA.

Hope this helps and is what you were looking for.

Stats for my DS:
ACT 32
GPA 3.87/4.0
Varsity letters in Football and Powerlifting (Captain)
Boys State
President of largest campus club
Treasurer of NHS
Lead in School Musical
Hundreds of service hours
Selected to school leadership council
DoDMERB qualified no waivers
Senatorial Nom

Rejected March 2018
I only posted this because I want you to see that even excellent candidates don't get accepted. It's a numbers game and many people with awesome stats get rejected every year. My DS's teachers, classmates, and the administration at his school couldn't believe he didn't get in. Even his BGO told him he was shocked. A good backup plan is a must. Sometimes that backup plan is a blessing! Best of luck to your DS/DD.

@teammom, I’m no fan of posting stats. But in your case, it’s an instructive moment about the folly of “chance me” threads. So I appreciate it, and I hope lurkers get the point. You may have awesome credentials, but that’s no guarantee of anything. Hence, the need for Plan, B, C... As many here have stated, those with a strong backup plan tend to “bloom where they’re planted.” And the butter bars look equally snazzy, regardless of accession path.

@teammom. I too am surprised he didn’t get an Appointment. He looks very well qualified. If you don’t mind asking what district is your DS from. It could very well mean your district is very competitive and it only takes one or two another great candidates to get bumped. I think it would help others to know. I’m sure your DS is doing well where he is now. Best wishes to your DS.

TX District 24.
I should also say that in our district you can only get one nom. He received a nom to USNA since he listed it as his first choice. His Westpoint rep told him if he had a nomination to USMA, he would have been offered an appointment.

No bitterness here! His backup plan has been great.

The people who post their statistics usually just post what they think is important and usually miss some key point. The two posters above left out class rank (GPA by itself is meaningless) and it is impossible to know who the academy will evaluate your school's profile. It is a long process with too many variables to consistently predict an outcome. I have seen districts that have 4-5 strong candidates in a year where it would take being at the top of the profile to win the slate and the next year not having a single qualified candidate.

I don’t know to what extent the score/grades data and comments are accurate, but the inaccuracies in describing the nomination process and other aspects of USNA would make me take this source with a grain of salt.

Near the top of the article, nominations FROM active duty or veterans...no, not quite, a simple reading of the primary source would show how the category of service-connected nominations works.

And at the end of the article, “all must be nominated by a member of Congress.” Noooooo.....

Third party interpretations of info available from primary sources can be woefully inaccurate.

I’ll be interested to know if the other data is accurate. He does get right the more holistic evaluation of all aspects of a candidate’s background and achievements.
