I have a student who is scheduled to take the CFA for USAFA. The question is can any of the scores also be applied to PFE, or must they be taken separately? Yes, I know they are not the same, but I am not familiar enough with the CFA to know if there may be cross over, or if it is allowed. (Also checking with CGA Admissions on this).

Update, can someone also comment on PFE vs AF ROTC PFA?

Here's are some old links on the topic:

It seems that those who took the PFE separately performed better. This may be due to the cumulative load factor of the CFA. (Six events for the CFA vs. three for the CGA PFE).

This post by @Objee who identifies him/herself as CGA admissions states that the PFE is preferred over the CFA.

Short answer is NO. CFA and PFA are different (even though they have some common events) and they cannot be used for one another. My DS took CFA for the academies and did well. Later on when he was applying for AFROTC, he took PFA. So, just sitting in the Starbucks, I thought of making a matrix to kill my time while he was taking his PFA. Here it is.. with my personal learning on how these 2 processes can be managed better, provided it will require a very focused logistical steps.

Steps:
  • Go with the Ave CFA scores provided by the USAFA as a baseline. Reason, If you achieve USAFA's ave, you are good to meet the USMA and USNA requirements.
  • To conduct CFA and PFA at the same time and report to different institutions:
    • Clock the score at 1 min for Sit-ups and Push-ups (for PFA). Then continue till 2 min and clock it again at the end of 2 min (for CFA)
    • Clock the 1 mile run time (for CFA and PFA). Continue running and clock again at the end of 1.5 mile (for PFA - AFROTC)
    • Make a video of Pull Ups and Push ups, separately. Only West Point needs the video.

Oh yes, I MUST HAVE NOT OVERLOOKED THIS FACT.
