If I had a very low GPA in high school but did very well in my freshman year of college, will admissions still look at my high school GPA? Will it help if I did well in my freshman year of college as a STEM major but did bad in high school?
 
Your college grades will carry a lot of weight because they’re the most recent. But your high-school grades are still in play and won’t be ignored. If the positive trend is long-term, i.e. upward trend all through high school, that suggests your college grades aren’t a “one off.” Also helps if you got these good college grades in a plebe-like course schedule, i.e. calculus, chemistry, English.

The admissions process is fairly objective. Your WCS will be calculated using your high school performance. College re-applicants are able to get a boost in the academic portion of the WCS based on a successful semester of college. You need to look at all portions of your application and do your best to improve all areas. You are still competing against others that may have had better grades.
