I thought that I would create this thread for anyone who is getting flown out to West Point to visit from the 15th-17th for the Candidate/Parent Visit. I think this would be a good opportunity to get an approximate headcount and to get to know each other just a little more before the visit.

My name is Niara from Texas and I’ll be there for the 11/15 visit. I look forward to meeting y’all there!

If you have specific questions during your official visit that you come up with after speaking to your cadet, make sure you guys send them my way!

I’m assuming you’re a Pleb right now. How does the Academy go about matching Plebs with candidates? Do Plebs volunteer or is it based off of similarities in geographic location, race, etc.?

I actually am a Plebe right now!

I don’t want to burst any bubbles here, but Plebe placement is random. You’ll be paired with a Plebe in CPRC (the group that signs up to tour cadet cadidates, or CCs). So yes, we do volunteer to an extent. I am in CPRC but have not had a CC yet, as my room is pretty tight because there are 3 people living in it even though it was meant for only 2 of us.

Exceptions:

- If you are on an overnight stay, you will be paired with a Plebe of your same sex so that the room is all males or females. Selection is still random but less so as the female pool is about 23% of USMA’s pop, meaning the male pool is around 77%.

- I’ve heard of some cases where cadets have chosen a CC by name (siblings or friends, for example) but I’ve heard these are uncommon and have to be planned pretty ahead of time.

- If you are being recruited for sports, you will stay with a cadet in that sport (most likely doing the same event you will be if you are accepted into the academy) and this cadet may not be a Plebe.

- If you are coming to visit via the diversity program, they coordinate it differently. They’ve actually never told me how they’ve done those so I still have no idea.
