Branch Night at West Point

Is BRADSO an option this year?
I believe so. Haven't heard of any changes to BRADSO.

This will be an interesting Branch Night with all of the changes made very recently.

I’m looking forward to observing for the first time!

That Sorting Hat gets around....here it is at Navy doing its thing.

Good luck to all, hope it’s 100% first choice to all.

@Capt MJ It is pretty cool. There are speeches--about "No bad branch" "Don't worry be happy" --and each cadet has an envelope.
Then, the speeches end, simultaneously open there envelopes. There is screaming, high-fiving, fist-bumping, hugging, jumping, general mayhem and great joy.
Then, the cadets break out into their new families/branches--are gifted with branch swag and party like rock stars.

The class of 2016 was the first class with a live feed (in those days, the awesome parent liaison used Periscope--it was like a great experiment). It was amazing to be able to watch the explosion and hear the rejoicing.

For parents, it is a lot of anxiety waiting to receive the news in a text or picture or phone call, and then a lot of relief. I am sure it is the same at the Boat School. I think cadets who are not getting one of their top five are warned prior to the event. (Seems like a great leadership practice. I remember my own shock from ROTC getting a branch that was low on my list- I said, "Girls don't do that." --and had only included it because I did not want a different branch at all. However, best thing that happened to me.) So, no bad branches.

I’ll be there for business and personal reasons, because I enjoy happy rituals and rites of passage in the military. The bottle breachers are from my puka[emoji16]. As I said, I am so looking forward to it. It will be right up there with cover tosses on graduation day. I’m actually wearing mostly black and gold, out of respect, but with my Navy pin discreetly in the mix.

I’ll be at CGA Billet Night in March - more fun.

@GoArmy2022 Are you all plebeians forbidden from decorating their rooms...to help the Firsties celebrate?

If by “decorate,” you mean destroy their rooms and watch them drunkenly make the state of their living space drastically worse, unfortunately that will not be allowed this year.

We are, however, allowed to put masking tape wherever we want (without rearranging anything) so my company came up with some clever tape tricks.

Update:

A little less than 1/4 of the Corps is now totally snockered.

And yes, the Plebes were, in fact, advised to lock our doors due to some mistakes that happened last year...

Cheering in the hallways; some trash has spilled. Some cookies have been tossed.

Every Firstie with whom I’ve spoke has gotten their first choice, but I have not seen everyone in my company yet...and half of them wanted Infantry. One of them actually BRADSOed it.

Annnddd one of our firsties going Infantry has drunkenly requested that we call the only male Firstie in our company who isn’t going combat arms “ma’am.”

Forgot to add they finally found the Vaseline we put on all of their doorknobs and trunk locks :)

Did the mistake last year involve a Plebe getting punched out by a Firstie that might have been "Snockered?"

Any data on branch selections? When various branches closed? Number of detail assignments? Etc.

There was a “rough draft” released a while ago, but I’m not sure the real ones are here yet. I only have the results for my company.
