Hello!

So my application status had been checked off to "ready for review" the day after the Early Action deadline (I turned in everything (application, etc) around 3 days prior to EA deadline).

However, I have STILL NOT received any e-mails regarding to Interview Scheduling...

Should I be worried?

No, do not worry. DS got a voice mail last night, returned the call today and interviewed an hour later. No time to get all nervous! No time to worry about what to wear, either. Not everyone will be interviewed, it is not mandatory from different posts I have read on here.

My DS received outreach from our local USCGA liaison yesterday. He stated the interview is no longer voluntary BUT admissions decides who will be interviewed....he stressed it is most likely just to get follow up information and a better feel for the candidate.

Jaglvr is correct. The procedure for interviews has changed this year. Who needs an interview comes from Admissions. They may be for any number of reasons, and done in a variety of ways.

interview is no longer voluntary BUT admissions decides who will be interviewed

So, this brings up a few questions:
1. Will every candidate be interviewed?
2. Only those who need to explain "deficiencies?"
3. Should a candidate be happy or worried if he/she is not granted an interview?

I understand that things have changed this year in regard to the interviewing process, and hard answers are not always available. Just looking for some guidance. Thanks

So, this brings up a few questions:
1. Will every candidate be interviewed? Clearly, the answer is no.
2. Only those who need to explain "deficiencies?" This is what we don't know, and no one who actually knows is saying.
3. Should a candidate be happy or worried if he/she is not granted an interview? Yes, they should be happy or worried. Either happy that they were deemed a qualified, admissible candidate without an interview, or worried that they were deemed non-competitive without an interview.

I understand that things have changed this year in regard to the interviewing process, and hard answers are not always available. Just looking for some guidance. Thanks

We were recently told this:
The admissions office will identify applicants to interview if they need amplifying information to make an admissions decision, this includes LOA applicants and appointed students.

Husband just came home from an admissions Q&A. The Lt. stated if you are offered an appointment you MUST have had an interview at some point before you can get the appointment. Take that how you will....

He stated the interview is no longer voluntary

Honestly this is probably the best change they've made to the application process. During my entire tenure at the Academy the interview process was optional and many of us felt that if it were mandatory it may have helped screen out those who lack certain personal skills that are fundamentally requisite to be a good officer.

I'm not trying to come across as arrogant, but I firmly believe that there are certain skills that you need to have to be a successful officer that you cannot teach: simple things such as being able to maintain eye contact, hold a conversation and be personable. An interview, even one over Facetime, would help screen out people who lack these qualities but who might otherwise seem quite qualified on paper.

DS 2018 would fully concur.

We attended CFAD last month and the Director of Admissions said that ALL competitive candidates would be interviewed. The interview is scheduled after the app is submitted and an initial screening of the application is complete.

I finally got an email yesterday requesting an interview. They should be arranging an interview within 30 days. I was relieved to see the request and I am excited to interview.

When we attended the athlete overnight admissions stated the interviews would be random and not an indication on getting in or not. Didn’t say everyone would be interviewed prior to receiving an appointment.

What does LOA mean?

The Acronym List (pinned at top) is a great asset for questions like this. LOA stands for Letter of Assurance.

You shouldn’t be worried. I got a call a week ago and I have an interview on Sunday. I am prepared for it. When I went for an overnight at the academy in October, the Cadet I was with had not recieved an interview (So you don’t need one, it just helps the admissions department to get to know you better.)

This year the admissions process has changed and, as some others have said, everyone that will be appointed to the class of 2023 will be interviewed. They stated that in the post-CFAD brief when I went in September as well as the CFAD parents brunch.

DD was interviewed last week by a USCGA Partner and was told that only 110 interviews were scheduled for those applying EA. DD thought the interview went extremely well. Now we wait til January.

My Bear's Den still does not reflect an interview but I did get an interview with the Coast Guard last week, which went extremely well.
