I have a medical issue and I have been identified as "highly competitive." My portal basically says,'' wait for your RC to put you into the waiver process." My question is since a waiver can be granted within a few weeks to even half a year, from what I read; can I get an Offer of Appointment before my waiver is granted? Or would the academy wait til I was granted the waiver, if so does that put me on the Backburner" so to say, thus decreasing my odds of acceptance?

There is no way of knowing or predicting. LOAs are not plentiful, and are used by SAs to meet a variety of needs to build out the class.

There are many candidates in your “pile,” awaiting waivers. As the previous poster noted, there is time.

Focus on things you can impact, such as finishing this year strongly, having fun but not doing anything that will derail you, work on PT for stamina and endurance and stress relief, develop self-coaching skills on patience and living in the present, ensure your Plan B and C are in good shape.

Cultivate the mental self-discipline to set aside the stuff you simply have no way of knowing or influencing, and invest that energy in things that can develop and strengthen you.

Not likely or why would West Point bother requesting a medical waiver?

There is a LOT of time. DD was medically DQ'ed by DODMERB, and went through the wavier process. It took a long time, but she cooperated with any and all informational requests, and in the meantime kept her grades up, stuck with her extracurriculars, applied for an ROTC scholarship, applied to other public universities, and waited. She ended up with a 4 yr ROTC scholarship, and was accepted to her other top choice school. She had her hopes set on USMA, but in the event her waiver was not granted, she had solid B and C plans. Turn your patience up to 10, be ready to comply with anything they might ask for and don't leave anything to chance. In the end, she was medically cleared and now is at the end of her first semester at the Academy. It can happen, but don't waste your time sitting by the phone, you have much more important business to attend to! Good luck

Additionally, not everyone gets a waiver requested. You have to be deemed competitive by your RC in order for them to request a waiver. You are considered highly competitive, so it shouldn't be an issue for you, but that may apply to some of the lurkers. Best of luck with your DoDMERB process! I know it can be stressful.

My DS was DQ for headaches. The DQ by DODMERB was inaccurate in that it stated that he had been medicated more than twice in two consecutive years. He was only prescribed medicine once for headaches and it was never refilled. I don’t know where they pulled that info? We gave them 3 years worth of prescriptions that they requested. Is it worth the rebuttal....or should we just remain patient?

What do you mean "rebuttal"?

The Naval Academy Liason said my DS could submit a “rebuttal” in the form of an email to DODMERB for the DQ for headaches.
