Made an account here back in 2010 when I was first working my way through the Academy/ROTC process. Been away from the forums for a few years and have recently found my way back - figured that I could do with a new introduction.

Ended up doing Navy ROTC, earned a commission, donned my butter bars and went out into The Fleet. Was a proud member of the Gator Navy but got transferred to shore duty when some medical stuff DQ'd me from being fully deployable. Ended up getting discharged (honorably) after a hellish medical board that resulted in the Navy denying any service connection. Still upset about it but the VA had my back and rated me 80% service connected.

I'm adjusting to civilian life and applying for grad school. Trying to make the best of what I've been dealt.

Note: Part of the reason why I came back to the forums was because I do think I had some knowledge that could benefit potential/current MIDN or JOs. I went through a BUMED waiver to commission and then had to go through a similar process while AD. I've worked with people being med-sep'd, helped explain the options, write their statements, etc etc. I know this process well enough to have written the guiding LIMDU and Med Board SOP for the San Diego Naval Medical Center.

My medical stuff was PTSD and MDD related so I can also speak to that if anyone has any questions regarding the mental health side.

Sorry for the long spiel, hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving break, and Go Navy!

Welcome back, especially since you are bringing recent experience and personal insight.

@scutrules,

Thank you for coming back and your willingness to be resource.

I’m sure the process of separation was difficult. Happy you came out the other side with a notion to help others.
