Unless something has changed, Sen. Burr will not notify you until the week between Xmas and NY if you will be interviewed. His interview notice is very short. He typically does it the 1st weekend of Jan. He does not interview everyone. Basically his interview committee will only take the top. IOWS, it is yours to lose.
~ There were only 18 to interview for the slate of 10 for USAFA when our DS applied.
~~ I believe they said they started with 500 for the 4 SAs.

Our DS interviewed on Sat. On Tuesday he had received in the mail his nom from Burr.
~ Ironically, DS opted AFROTC over USAFA. 2 yrs later bc of his collegiate requirements (scholar program) as a govt major, he was required to intern on the Hill for a semester. He worked for Sen. Burr.

OBTW Burr is not there, it is a committee. He just signs off on the committees recs., at least that is how it worked with our DS.

Also, unless NC has changed the MOCs do not talk. You can get all 3. Burr did not do principal that year, it does not mean he will not do it this yr. He did unranked, submitted alphabetically, he left to the SA to decide which candidate would be charged to him.

That is a lot of helpful information. Thank you.

Checked USNA portal and found a nomination from MO Senator 2. Most likely Blunt as he is the junior senator, correct?

Any updates for Wisconsin?

DS received a letter from Rep. Glenn Grothman (WI-06) dated November 19th granting him a nomination to all four SAs. USMMA updated his portal with the nomination today (11/30), the other three SAs still haven't acknowledged the nominations yet. We're hoping they update sometime this coming week, even though DS might not hear anything about appointments (Yes or No) until as far out as March or April. We're all just really excited about the nominations and there's nothing left for DS to do but wait.

We've read that the Senator's committees work with the Congressmen's committees to avoid recommending too many overlapping nominations, so DS half expects to not get nominations from either of the Senators because he got all four from our Congressman and they want to spread the nominations out to include as many qualified candidates as possible, which makes perfect sense to us. But, Ive seen many candidates on this forum (from past years) receive multiple nominations to the same academies. So, my question is, does getting multiple nominations to the same academy increase a candidate's chances of getting an appointment? And if so, is it unreasonable, even selfish, to hope for overlapping nominations from multiple sources to increase DS' chances? I've met several fantastic young Wisconsin candidates in recent months, and I must admit that I'm feeling very Scroogy wishing for something that could diminish their chances.

Any shared wisdom about the process will be appreciated, and a friendly rebuke for my parental greediness would not be out-of-line either. Many thanks.

@birdwatcher4125 ,

No current news on Wisconsin nominations, but when my son applied he did receive nominations from both senators (Feingold and Kohl at the time) and Rep. Petri. So at that time at least (2006) the MOCs did not drop nominees because they had another nomination. He was listed as a nominee in the press releases of all three. Because he had an early LOA he was given his appointment before Christmas. At first his nomination was charged to Feingold. Two weeks later we got a letter saying that they had changed his nomination source to Kohl. Then later we got another letter saying that his nom was now charged to Petri. During the process the Academy put together the puzzle of appointments from Wisconsin and moved his nomination around to get the best class. Getting multiple nominations may not increase your chances of an appointment, but it gives the Academy flexibility to build the best class.

It's not unreasonable or selfish to hope for multiple nomination sources.

BTW, I read the Nominations FAQ sticky at the top of this forum and it's fantastic.

Thank you. What about PA and Toomey and Shuster? Anyone hear from them??

We have Smucker and heard right before Christmad last year with a nom. His liasion stated they do talk with Casey and Toomey. DS heard from Toomey around then too. DS had a phone interview with Toomey on 11/17. Casey’s phone is Tuesday. Can’t recall when he heard last year but want to say early Jan for Casey. Too lazy to look in hus binder from last year.

Any updates from North Carolina?
dS has interview with Tillis 2 weeks ago and got letter yesterday. We never heard a word from out congressman G Holding. I’m hoping he’d send word one way or the other.

Thanks for the response, I remember you sharing this with me once before. My DS hasn't secured an LOA from any of the academies, but it seems from what I've read on the forum that a vast majority of appointees don't get LOAs. Still, it must have been really comforting when your DS got one.

When I got home from work this morning I logged in to the forum and read your response. About 10 minutes later, my DS came downstairs with a letter from yesterday's mail from Senator Ron Johnson congratulating him on his nominations to all four SAs from Congressman Glenn Grothman, then it said this "The Wisconsin congressional delegation works collaboratively to give all qualified applicants from Wisconsin the greatest opportunity to compete for a limited number of service academy nominations. We make every effort to avoid duplicate nominations to any academy." It definitely makes sense for them to do it this way. It gives the academies the most to work with.

Yesterday the USAFA portal acknowledged DS' nomination, the other two haven't yet........I gotta learn to relax!

Got email Friday from Tillis as well. Phone call was a few days after interview. Not sure if/when Sen Burr will do any. Still waiting on Congressman also but different district.

DS had an interview with Sen Tillis a couple of weeks ago. No word yet on the results. No word at all from Sen Burr or Rep Budd (NC-13). Budd's office said at their academy day they will not send out interview notifications until late Nov early Dec so we should hear any day.
I believe Tillis office called people two days later, email confirming was this past Friday. No info on interviews from Burr yet. Our Rep (NC-10) interviews are mid December.

Shuster's letters are out (PA-09)

DS just got Nomination from Shuster for USNA. Now needs to get accepted and appointed.

Has anyone in CA heard back from Senators Feinstein or Harris for interviews? Looking at posts from past years it seems notices would have gone out by now.
Son was notified on November 27 that he was selected for an interview with Feinstein, scheduled on Dec 1. It sounded like that was the only day they were holding interviews (by phone), in 1/2 hour increments between 9am and 2pm. He has not heard from Senator Harris. Unfortunately, he did not ask when he would hear back from Feinstein's office regarding a decision.
