No one tops the Marines for resourcefulness

It is a response to a TTP which is easy to adapt to. I am not diminishing the work of these guys but there are a lot of good initiatives in the counter unmanned systems fight which are just as innovative and efficient across the joint force.

Why would the Army be concerned about defending a ship against speedboats?
Well, maybe they might run an Army ship through the Straits of Hormuz some day and wish they had a few defensive options.

We found helicopters work pretty well against Iranian gunboats in that area :D

Your mileage may vary. Personally, while we preferred to rely on embarked Cobras as our defensive tool, the enemy tended to use night, bad weather and sandstorms which didn't always cooperate with safety of flight limits.

DS is on USNS as Engineer but has worked Merchant through the Canal. When they come down the Red Sea from Suez on any Ship they have hired armed guards on board. Shoot first ask questions later.

That will stop/help stop the pirates but the boghammers are a very different threat and require tools that the hired armed guards are not likely to have.

They have what they need and they are mostly retired Israel special forces or other special forces retired. They know what they need and use it well. He still has his 45..

I think that we're talking about different threats here. Boghammer (sometimes called speedboats) are and have been a significant threat to warships that carry significant weaponry. Their ability to hurt you exceeds the range of small arms and yes. . . LAWS rockets
