I'm currently looking into applying for the AIM program. I have a GPA of 3.96 and am taking all honors classes. Throughout high school I've taken all honors classes. Right now I am taking AP calculus as a junior, and will be taking BC calculus next year. I'm a swimmer and play water polo, both variety. I am also a member of NHS. I speak fluent spanish and have lived out of the USA for 9 years (moving every 2-4 years). Is there anything else I can do to help my chances of being accepted into AIM/USCGA?

Please remember that AIM is a recruiting program and, as such, selection criteria for AIM is different than that for an USCGA appointment. There is very little (if any) correlation between AIM selection and appointment to the academy.

Please remember that AIM is a recruiting program and, as such, selection criteria for AIM is different than that for an USCGA appointment. There is very little (if any) correlation between AIM selection and appointment to the academy.

While it may be a recruiting tool of sorts, and selection criteria is probably different, roughly 40% of the class of 2022 attended AIM, so take that for what it's worth.

The biggest thing you can do, besides acing your SAT, is to reach out to the swim coach. Would your times be competitive on the current CGA swim team? If so, you should be beating down the coach's door.

The biggest thing you can do, besides acing your SAT, is to reach out to the swim coach. Would your times be competitive on the current CGA swim team? If so, you should be beating down the coach's door.

I have a 28 on my 50 free, and a 1:14 on my 100 back stroke. I'm not sure if those times are competitive enough to be recruited? I also play water polo and would be interested in that but I don't think you can get recruited for it?
 
The best answer is to contact the coach and discuss things directly. But if you want to poke around a little why not go see how they're doing this year? The results with all their meet times are online: http://uscgasports.com/sports/mswimdive/2018-19/schedule

From the looks of things you're not at the front of the pack at all, but you wouldn't have placed last in either of those events at their last meet in December. That's unlikely to get the coach beating down the door to Admissions on your behalf, but it's still a valuable relationship to establish.

+1 @StPaulDad - have you initiated contact with the coach? If not, try the "Recruit Me" option from the USCGA Athletics site. Site members can speculate if you can be recruited, but only the coach knows what the program's current needs are. Good luck.

I believe the OP is a female. a 28 50 Free is not off of the charts but a 20.8 would have been a male swimmer, unless I'm mistaken. A fast female swimmer would hit 25-26 in the 50 free and about 1 minute in the 100 back. She's not too far off but 2 seconds is a lot, although reachable.

There’s a saying that if you’re “good enough to be recruited, you know it”. That being said your swimming and polo history boost your resume as these are sports that require a high level of fitness. Your stats academically look very good! Good luck!
