DQ - Hearing HELP!!

DS was disqualified for "Hearing Loss Exceeding Accession Standard". Anyone know what the standard is. We are waiting for medical records to see what original exam said. Very annoyed because at test there was some confusion and the examiner said not to worry. My son hesitated on part of the test. Well now we have a DQ.

To top it off I have two kids now with DQ. This process is going to push me over the edge. One is a junior in ROTC and my new DQ applying to service academy.

I believe the link below is the current accession standard. Pages 14-15 for your issue. This at least gives you a basis for comparison.

Just keep in mind my comments are 100% unofficial and pure opinion.

Your assigned DODMERB Tech is your DS’ go-to.
 
Been through that. My advice is to go to an audiologist of your choice and pay to get the test done. Bring the above indicated standards with you and go over them with audiologist. If the test results are within standards, email them to your DODMERB tech and you should be in good shape. If not, you will have to wait and go through the waiver process.

My cadet flunked his first hearing test. As soon as we got in car after exam, he said "I think I may have fallen asleep in that dark room." Oops.

Oh my, yes we have already talked about getting another test. First have all the wax cleaned out of his ears LOL!!. I believe they can't be over 35 but don't know if there is a buffer. Its almost impossible to get into the military these days.

@jebdad gives great advice there, and as always @Capt MJ gives the correct link. The parameters are on the bottom of page 14 and the top of page 15. Pretty straightforward.

If it is any hope/comfort, my DS got the same DQ back in early September. I took him to an ENT specialist who could not see anything wrong externally so he ordered a CT scan of the inner ear. The scan showed no sign of any major issue but only an explanation that he was probably born with it. The audiologist re-tested him with a borderline result in the speech range in one ear. We submitted all record to DoDMERB so that they have them on file. In early October, he got a letter both USCGA and USNA that waivers have been requested on his behalf because he is a "highly qualified" candidate. USCGA also offered him an LOA. Just yesterday, his DoDMERB portal showed that USMA had granted him the medical waiver. If your DS is highly qualified, the SA's will consider him for a waiver.
 
Well the doctor's office that originally did the hearing test agreed to have him retest. As I mentioned, I think there was some confusion during the test. Happy to report his results are way within the standards.
 
More confused than ever. I retook test and was within limits and sent to Dodmerb. Followed up with Dodmerb to see when status would change from Pending Waiver to medically qualified. This was their response and don't understand it.

The rebuttal was received (what rebuttal) but it was reposted to the waiver site for a decision. WHY???
 
@HopefulMomMarine: This is the Government: There is a process, another process and still another process - there is no room for deviation. I will let others who are much more knowledgeable weigh in but in my rudimentary understanding DODMERB simply reads results and determines if they are within tolerances or not. THEY do not "waive" exceptions - they compile the results, update when necessary, and send them to another authority that grants the waiver. You are waiting for this new party to make their decision.

I may not have it exactly right, but I would bet I am close.
 
He doesn't need a waiver he passed it was just redone so I don't understand why it remains in waiver mode. So annoyed. We just went through a waiver process with another child and thankfully he received it. Really don't want the stress of another one grrrr.

As USMCGrunt said, there is a process that must be followed. Don't sweat it-- the important thing is that the retest seems to indicate a waiver shouldn't be needed.

Same for DS, he retested and passed but DoDMERB would not reversed the DQ from he first test so we have to wait for the waiver process. DoDMERB did acknowledged that they have the second test results on file for the waiver authorities to review if they decide that my DS qualified enough to be considered for a waiver. My DS and I agreed not to contest because he rather get granted a waiver and be appointed where he is fit to serve compared to be appointed and deemed disqualified/discharged because of subsequent exam.
