Hello all. What does this status (via email from admissions) actually mean ? I tried to navigate SA forums and net, although I locate dated information... #sitenewbie

My son received that last year. You would be qualified but now it is a shuffle among your state for whom will be offered appointments as everything plays out. FYI my DS was on hold til May before not being accepted... So the wait begins....

Most candidates who are qualified are placed on hold status. You can come off hold at any time. Some appointments will be made from the hold list as soon as nominations are received. Most decisions are made by March, but a few wait until April or May (or even later in a few cases). Congratulations on being found qualified. You should notify your nomination sources of your status of being deemed qualified because sometimes that status helps your chances for a nomination. Good luck.

@kpmom2013
Thanks for taking the time to share this with me ! Really appreciate it and will share it accordingly ..

Happy Thanksgiving !

My DS was put on "hold"Nov 2017 until the end of May 2018. He was offered NMMI and gladly took the offer. The day after he was offered prep school from Coast Guard as well. He will playing football for USMMA class of 2023. He is killing it out at NMMI...3.87 GPA and thriving......The best thing we could have done... "Hold" was hard . Don't let anyone tell you it isn't. It is like being stuck in limbo for a really long time. My advice would be keep all your back ups in play. BUT don't give up.

My DS was put on “hold” status a few weeks ago. He had an overnight visit early this year as the Diving coach is interested in him.
Application is complete minus his 7 Semester grades...he is currently a foreign exchange student in Switzerland for his entire senior year. They don’t even give him grades at all over there and I have been assured by his admissions officer that he has received a waiver for those. He is currently in one on line class through his stateside HS for the only credit he needs to graduate, so those grades still need to be turned in.
Passed CFA
Qualified Medical
We are in Missouri, the Senators don’t do interviews but he did a Skype interview with our MOC(?), any info on Missouri Nomination schedules would be helpful?
Diving Coach did some digging and told us he was a “High Hold” candidate...anyone ever heard of that?

Never heard of "high hold," but the diving coach is a great guy and not the kind of guy who would get your hopes up for no reason. I would be cautiously optimistic.

Same situation here in GA with my DS. His app status is "HOLD". He is CFA qualified, Medically Qualified and has a NOM from one of our Senators. The baseball Coach is interested and he has been emailing back and forth since he took a visit to USMMA in Nov. My DS loved it at USMMA and enjoyed spending the day with others from the team. At this point, he waits.
Someone knowledgable here on SAF might be able to chime in on this but I read somewhere that the Admissions Board meets every Thursday (I think) to evaluate applications for LOA's. And a LOA will be mailed not emailed. Does this sound right?

My son's LOA showed up on the front porch from FedEx. The board typically meets once a week (I think Thursdays), and the Hold status means your son is a potential candidate. It takes time for the Board to rank the state applications and make offers according to federal law numbers, not just recommend LOAs. Once that's done, they start pulling other applicants to fill spots.

So you didn’t the LOA on the portal before the letter came?

They showed up about the same time. Nothing was emailed. The portal changed to say LOA maybe a day or so before FedEx arrived.

How are you able to check the location of the ship? Not that I'm asking because my DS will be in that situation at this time next year. LOL.

I use 3 different free websites depending on where the ship is: sailwx.info, vesselfinder.com, and marinetraffic.com. There are more if you want to pay to set up an account. The rollercoaster continues.
