Another way to look at this is with the pride that America is still recognizing/observing Pearl Harbor Day even after the generation who experienced it is almost gone.

Not to be a Debbie-downer, but it also reminds me that while WW2 will always be a central act in the history of the US, popular culture has almost completely forgotten WW1 (120,000 US dead - in 1+ year!) and the Korean War (40,000 US dead). And if not for a handful of Hollywood movies (Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now!, Platoon, Forrest Gump, Born on the 4th of July), the Vietnam War (60,000 US dead) would have been forgotten already.

That being said, we should remember that the cost of isolationism and lack of military preparedness only invites attacks like Pearl Harbor.

That, and a really, really, really terrible decision by the Empire of Japan.
