Hello All, New to all of this and after reading these forums, we have learned that orthodontics are a DQ for all SA. So, my question is how early does DS need to get the paperwork completed by the orthodontist? How early does the orthodontics need to be removed? Per the office staff, the braces are scheduled for removal in March. He had his physical on November 1, but at this point no information has been communicated and DoDMERB website states under review. Thanks for any information.

Here’s some USNA guidance. Other SAs may have similar, but not necessarily.

Thanks for the information. Should DS wait for the DoDMERB site show an issue or be proactive, get the form completed by the orthodontist and email form to them? Thanks for any advice

On the DoDMERB website there is a Orthodontia form that you can have your DDS complete as soon as possible. So long as the form shows complete removal well before July, you should be okay. However I would not send the from into DoDMERB unless you receive a remedial. Then you will have the form locked and loaded ready to go. This happened to my DS four years ago.

Now for some, the hardest part, the follow-up. From your screen name I assume you're a Mom so I suggest that your young man be tasked with making sure the completed form will be picked up when ready. Just a suggestion. Good luck!!

Hmm. That's what I would have thought too- but my DS's orthodontic form said removal June 2019 and he was DQ'd. The ortho staff also wrote 30 month plan from March 2017 but few lines later: removal by June 2019.

I cannot tell you what the date threshold for appliance removal is. Four years ago, my DS was projected on the Ortho form, for removal of the braces by end of March, and DoDMERB found that to be acceptable. He went from "Remedial" to "qualified" right after submitting the ortho form.

The braces will be off in March, one way or another!..

As expected, DS received a remedial R252.80 today. He will be at the orthodontist office tomorrow after school to pick up form.

After submitting a remedial, how long does it take to get an answer?
Back in 2015, it took a couple of weeks or so for the ortho remedial to switch to "qualified." But that was over three years ago.

Hopefully, every thing will be ok. The orthodontist stated March 1st as the removal date and just retainers (removal, clear) at night for lifetime.
