So I just found out I got a nomination for USMA and USNA from my congressman. However, I never actively pursued my naval application and closed it about a month ago due to lack of interest. I am now thinking I may want to apply there because I have the nomination. Is it too late?

Do you want to be a Navy or Marine Corps officer? Don’t apply just because you have a nom. Think about why you closed the application, and if those feelings and reasons still exist.

I know I have seen posts about this before, re-opening a closed application. If it’s possible, you are going to have to have a solid explanation for why you closed and why you want to re-open.

I am looking forward to one of the BGOs on here, or someone with first-hand knowledge, commenting on how this might be done.

This actually happened to my oldest son, also. He had applied to USAFA only, but when MOC interview was over they put him on the nomination slate for USNA as well. He never knew it until the USNA rep called him to ask why they hadn’t seen his application, yet. He had no interest in USNA or landing a jet on a little steel runway in the middle of the ocean so he politely declined to apply.

I apologize for using “BGO” here - I meant the USAFA experts.

You closed the application so you clearly weren’t interested in USNA. I question your motivations, and if you received an apppintment, I’d question your longevity and/or contentment once on the Yard.

Contact the USNA office and asked your application to be opened, if you are truly interested. If you have a competitive profile, your application should be reopened.
