Same here, we weren't expecting a December appointment and we always thought that DS's first appointment was going to be from West Point on January 8. DS is seriously considering USNA as his first choice for the first time in 4 years. His BGO and the Local U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association has offered him outstanding support.
His FFR and ALO have also been great, whichever branch he chooses we will be extremely proud.

Congrats!

I got a call from my Congressman saying I got an Appointment to U.S. Naval Academy and my portal has been updated showing Appointment. Am I supposed to receive something official in the mail? If so, how long after portal update should I receive it?

DD received congressional nom and senatorial nom. Showed up in the portal and then about a week later a letter via snail mail.

Quick question, hopefully our new appointees can answer since I haven't dealt with this in 4 yrs: Does USNA send out the nice binder/appointment letter (what used to be BFE) to all appointees still, or do they wait and send them after an appointee has accepted their offer of appointment on CIS?

There's no significance to that date.

Last year USMA sent a wave of appointments on the second week of January.
January 8th does not mean anything other than hope.

Did you get notified today? Just trying to figure out if there is any rhyme or reason when these announcements come out?

Yes, DS received an email notification of his appointment this afternoon. He had everything complete for awhile now and received a congressional nomination a couple weeks before Christmas. Much excitement in the house tonight.
