My DS has his appointment for DoDMERB – DoDMETS next week but just received a letter of denial for his nomination. We aren't sure if he should keep is appointments. Does anyone have any advice on what to do next?

Keep appointments, unless he is ready to give up.

Presumably he applied for the VP nom, at the SAs that use that one. There is a slim chance there. Ditto a Supe’s nom.

DODMERB is good for 2 years, I think. If he is committed to the SA path, and he doesn’t get an offer of appointment this year, presumably he is ready to go kick butt in his Plan B, perhaps do ROTC, and re-apply. People can and do get noms and appointments on second and third tries.

It all depends on what he wants and how long he is willing to try for it.

Thank you for the info. He is upset but doesn't want to give up and does have a Plan B for now.

If he does ROTC, that adds an additional nom source next cycle.

If and until he gets a “no,” from an SA, he is still in play, but will wisely prepare to execute Plan B and re-attack with an even more impressive resumé next go-round. Elected officials will take note of perseverance and continued achievement.

DODMERB is good for 2 years so go through process, get qualified and have that one check mark ready be it this year or next...

I was denied by one Senator but was nominated by the other and the congressman.

Agree to continue in with it, especially if his Plan B could possible involve ROTC. It’s also good in case he reapplies. Also, he could still get prep school too. So if any of those options are on the table or prep is something that interests him, then yes, do the physical.

@velardelynch, you’ve received sound advice above. Here’s a real-world example. DD was 3Q for a particular SA but didn’t receive a MOC nomination (not a surprise, as she’d informed the MOC panels that this SA was her third choice). Yet, just a few days before “national decision day,” she was given an LOA pending a nomination. The next day, she was notified that she had a nomination — source not revealed — and therefore an offer of appointment. So yes, until you have TWE in hand, plow forward.
