USNA requested my 7th semester transcript about 3 weeks ago. What does this mean?

My 7th semester transcript won’t even be available until the first week of February. I feel like that’s too late to matter anymore. Would it be wise to let the admissions office know that my grades aren’t available until February?

I’m assuming my file has already gone in front of the board in order for them to request more grades. Do I need these 7th semester grades submitted in order to receive a WCS and have USNA determine the slate winner? Or how does that work?

It means they requested your 7th semester grades. I would let them know when the transcripts will be available and then send it to them when its available. Some decisions will be made in February. Some will be made in March, and some even in April.

This happens every year -- USNA requests 7th semester grades for some candidates and not for others. It's simply another data point that is now available. The request doesn't seem have any particular meaning in terms of how your application is being viewed. Have seen those providing 7th semester grades ultimately be appointed and ultimately turned down.

It goes without saying that, if your 7th semester grades in tough classes are very good, it won't hurt -- but likewise may not be dispositive. If they are not very good, obviously not going to help but if your record is o/w strong, may not hurt much if at all.

I suggest you notify your Admissions Officer that your school does not typically release grades until X date and that you will ensure your school provides them as soon as they're available. You might also consult your school administrator and see whether the school can release them to USNA any earlier, but recognize that may not be possible. It is what it is.

USNA also requested the semester grades for my DS. I view this as his application is being viewed enough for them to want to see additional information. As USNA1985 said, it could possibly push the decision in either direction. DS notified USNA that they wouldn't be available until late January at the earliest.

My son’s 2nd quarter grades this year were lower than normal .... because of all the holidays, he had only a few tests and not enough time to bring a poor test grade up.

He was able to bring the overall quarter grade up over a 97 unweighted since Tuesday with a few tests - and semester grade over 98 unweighted. The principal told me this is normal for this quarter.

We got the same request for my 3 kids who applied, and their school also does not have 7th semester grades available until February. We replied to admissions with that information and also sent mid-term grades. One of my kids got an appointment within a week after submitting the 7th semester mid-term grades. If your school provides mid-term grades and your grades are good, you might try that approach.

--snip-- you will ensure your school provides them as soon as they're available. --snip--

really really really be on your school about this.

#2 son's guidance counselor didn't send them until a month after he initially requested them and even then it took some prompting and an e-mail to the principal - don't know if it made a difference but surely didn't help

FYI our HS used Parchment [this was 2 yrs ago] for all transcripts; it's a self serve e-document portal. Might want to check to see if your school has anything like this; it's becoming very common. Many colleges prefer this as it promotes security and data integrity. I'm sure counselors and administrators like it too as it takes another burden off their backs.

What ended up happening to your other 2 kids?

All 3 who applied were accepted to academies. DD#1 decided on a civilian school instead. The other two who applied turned down other academies and opted for USMMA which was their first choice. All ended up where they belong and are happy and successful. DS#2, Kings Point 2013, is a Navy pilot. DD#2, Kings Point class of 2021, is currently at sea and plans to sail on her license. (DS #1 is a Navy Chief assigned to Marine RECON (Marine Raiders) as a corpsman.)

During my senator interview, I found out I was board qualified. Should I expect a request for 7th-semester grades? Does that ever happen for 3q applicants?

DO NOT USE PARCHMENT or any other second-party transcript service to send transcripts to USNA.
USNA WILL NOT ACCEPT THEM. They need to come directly from your school.
USNA accepted my transcript from parchment, but you do have to send a paper copy and make sure you verify with your school that they hold for 7th semester grades. I know people who were applying to civilian schools who requested that parchment wait, but they sent them anyways.

To all the candidates that have received 7th semester grade requests, have your portals changed? I received an email but my portal is still CPR with no required actions.

One can always call admissions to get the latest info from the horses mouth.
