AFROTC February Board Chances?

I stupidly waiting a little too long for my fitness test and am scheduled for the February Board. Will this decrease my chances for a 4 year scholarship?
I have 1420 sat with 750 math 670 english.
3.74 UW GPA with rank of 40/402
I'll finish high school with 12 or 15 community college credit hours with 4.0 GPA.
Varsity track and XC plus team captain.
Multiple academic organization.

I've been accepted to Colorado school of mines and would want to use a ROTC Scholarship there if not accepted to SA.
I am really stressed out after reading that later boards have less scholarship. Am I screwed?
My AROTC scholarship is currently in board.

Yes, especially if you did poorly on the fitness test. Check the <30 AFPFT chart to see where you stacked up. ~50% of AD gets 90 or higher (at least according to AFFMS...)

In regards to your other posted metrics, I'd advise against posting such specific information like that on here. It can come across as braggy and goes a LONG way towards identifying you.

For example, how many folks do you think have applied for a 4-year AFROTC scholarship to CO School of Mines (assuming you listed that on your application) with that exact GPA and SAT score? I bet just one.

No one on this forum can definitely say how many scholarships HQ AFROTC will be handing out this year, and how many have already been awarded. Logically, there are less now than there were in September 2018, but if anyone says otherwise, they are speculating based off of past results and pure hearsay. Who knows? AFROTC might have gotten a pittance of applications prior to now, and thus only a few scholarships have been awarded.

Keep cool and stay optimistic. If you interviewed well, you have a good shot at an offer if this year lines up like last year.

I am by no means meant to be braggy; most people I've seen on here have much better stats, so I am legitimately concerned. Thanks for the information.

Don't sweat it. Stats are irrelevant by themselves. The package is whole-person. A lot of really smart people have crappy attitudes, can't interview, lack humility, and are untrainable. If your interview went well, you'll be solid.

You got three (maybe four if they have some unused spots leftover this summer like they do sometimes) bites at the apple.

Does anyone know the dates of the February board and when results will likely be released? I've search a couple of places but can't find the information.

For AFROTC, 11 Feb is the board date, IIRC. Results out NLT 01 Mar.

Is you SAT best sitting or super scored? AROTC super scores, whereas, AFROTC does not. The scores are great for best sitting, but if your best sitting is 1300 than your chances of a Type 1 drops dramatically and most likely you will land up Type 2 at best.

Top 10% of your class is in the boundaries of their avg recipient. Caveat. It will also come down to your HS profile. IE you are top 10%, but how many go IVY vs 4 yr vs 2 yr vs work force. 25% go IVY looks a lot better than 0%.

Same with your gpa. They will look at your school profile, thus, from my perspective that gpa means nada. Is it on a 7 pt scale or 10 pt? The board has been known to recalculate gpas based on the scale. IE my DS's gpa went up based on their calculations.

Do I see shortcomings? Yes. we have no clue how you did on your interview or your PFA. Bust the push ups and you lost points on your WCS. Didn't max out the interview and again your WCS will be lower.
~ It is not just about academics, or athletics. It is about the Whole Candidate, hence why they call it the WCS.

School of Mines is an amazing college, which means to me on paper you are a competitive candidate. I am not a betting woman, but I do believe even though you are late to the game, you will get a scholarship.

Tbpxece, unless something has changed, AFROTC doesn't offer over the summer any scholarships if there is left over money for that class/yr group. Instead, what AFROTC does is offer more ICSPs once they are in school and apply again for a scholarship.
~ In my 10 yrs here I have never read any post after the last board met where they said in May, June or July they were offered a scholarship. Remember, many USAFA/USNA/USMA cadets will hold onto their plan B (ROTC scholarship) until I DAY which is July. On I Day once they take their oath, the SA will inform ROTC and that scholarship is revoked. HQ AFROTC and USAFA do not talk when they offer anything to a candidate. Thus, AFROTC really may not learn until July, and that is if the candidate goes to an SA. If the candidate applied for every ROTC scholarship (AF/N/Army) than they will not know until it is activated the 1st week of college. See above why it usually unlikely for AFROTC to offer any scholarship after the last board.

I also would say Feb is going to be the big chance for any candidate that is up for their 1st look. March, both boards, are really whittling down to the nitty gritty. Look at it like a bell curve. October and March are low when compared to Dec and Feb.

You are correct, ma'am. I was referring to the ICSP-- at the Det level. I omitted a word that would've cleared it up. Should've said "unused spots leftover after this summer". Thanks for pointing out that!

OP, don't overlook the Navy ROTC-- same deadline and the applications are fairly similar. You'd have an additional interview, but all the prep work is effectively duplicated.

Do you know what AFROTC recalculated your GPA to? My DS had a 4.6 weighted GPA & it got recalculated to a 3.95. He got a Type 7 scholarship. He also got some emails from detachments/schools that he hadn't applied to & one said that there had been 613 scholarships given out in the first 2 boards. That leaves quite a few scholarships to be won if you look at the numbers from other years.

The last I knew HQ AFROTC does not use a scale over 4.5 for AP or Jump Start (CC classes). Hence, they would re-weight because at the very least his wcgpa was a 5.0 base.

Again, this is why older posters take a gpa, be it cgpa or wcgpa with a grain of salt. HQ AFROTC has their own algorithm. There are tens of thousands of HS across the country. The algorithm balances that out, and part of that comes from the school profile (AP/IBs offered and weight), part of it is tied to is it a 7 pt scale or 10 pt.

Our DS's cgpa, jumped up by 0.18 bc not only the weight, but the scale too. His HS used a 7 pt scale.

For the OP Colorado School of Mines is insanely competitive. For many CO candidates that want USAFA as plan A, that school is plan B. It is not well known, but it is respected. Whatever happens, be proud of your accomplishment.

@Pima - We just learned about COSOM about a year or so ago and my DS is applying now for the Harvey Scholarship. Do you know if that is compatible with AFROTC, or would that be biting off a lot? Also, do you know how transportation works to AFROTC? Do they have a bus, or need to catch a ride? Thanks!

I honestly do not know any of those answers. You really are going in the fine print now. Our DS went OOS, but only 90 mins a way, so this transportation aspect was not a part of our lives.

Now if you are asking about if he is going Xtown. IE his college is not the host college for AFROTC. Again, my DS went to the host college. However, many xtown cadets would commute together. Some dets even have vans that pick up the xtown cadets at specific places. They will not be reimbursed to travel to the det if they are xtown.

You need to reach out to the bursar or FA at COSOM.
IMPO it usually works like this for cadets with AFROTC and merit.
Bursar takes off on the top AFROTC, and merit from the school takes 2nd place. This means it can be applied to R & B or get a check cut back.
Bursar takes off on the top MERIT from the school, and AFROTC scholarship takes 2nd place.
~ Here is the problem. AFROTC will only cover TUITION. If the merit covers 16K and tuition is only 18K, than there is no check cut back. Note: FINE PRINT. Type 2 says UP TO 18K, it does not say 18K.
