Hi, Has anyone had a physical education teacher give them the CFA that wasn’t their teacher or from their school ? My school is very small and their is no track but another school has all the equipment I would need to take it. I emailed my BGO but also wanted to see if anyone had this experience? Also anyone know an average or passing scores for a male. I know they don’t list but I thought If anyone took them & passed they might be able to post. Thanks so much

Indeed. The new slightly modified rules are posted on the USNA Admissions website. And the websites for Army, Air Force as the CFA is standardized.

The most recent change was authorizing coaches to administer the CFA. For some reason, coaches had been removed from the list which caused some pushback from candidates, parents, and administrators. We are very glad to see coaches being welcomed back into the fold.

That’s great, we were going to ask his swim coach, but she is isn’t a physical education teacher so unfortunately since we waited too long to retake the CFA we didn’t want to take a chance Also my sons BGO said he Could do better In one event in the CFA and not that high in another, everything we read says you have to have to the minimum in every event to pass. We appreciate you taking the time to answer us. Thank you

In my experience with Candidates and my son who is a midshipman, I find they typically do better in some areas than others. The basketball throw is typically the most challenging as are the shuttle run and the chin-ups. The goal for most Candidates is to max out the other areas to make up for the deficits. Good luck!

Thank you so much. So if he didn’t score great on one event doesn’t that automatically make him fail? The basketball throw he is pretty good at , I think around 74 feet or more. Push ups/ pull ups he has been doing them many times a day To improve. His mile was a 7.30 which he is concerned about but is going to retake next Saturday , he doesn’t want to wait until the very, very end even though they said scores have to be imputed by January 31.

in 2014, my DS received an LOA from USNA and had a slow run time of 7:58. He was not a recruited athlete, nor underrepresented minority. I was shocked that was a passing score, frankly.

Thank you. Sorry for asking but what does DS stand for ? Do you his other scores ? Thanks so much

My DS went to a performing arts high school :band:with no athletics, so no physical ed teacher, coaches, gym or track! I contacted his ALO (AFA), BGO and his West Point liaison, none of them could/would help. I then contacted some JROTC programs in our school district. A Navy major and a Marine Sargent from another high school admin'ed the test. They were super supportive, the major even ran with DS to help speed him up and the Marine told him if he wasn't puking by the end, he didn't try hard enough (DS did puke and the Marine was so satisfied) :D They sat and talked to him after the test about their careers and asked what my DS wanted out of a SA, what his interests were and if he would come back with his guitar and play for them! They turned in the paperwork on time and even wrote his WP physical ed teacher evaluation because my son didn't have one. So long story short, try JROTC programs to admin your test.
