My son was a 3 time applicant and this is what we learned.
Yes, reapplicants need a nomination.
Yes, he had to open a new file every year. Although, USMA will move some info from the previous year into your new app.
Yes, you can keep taking the ACT/SAT, unless your scores are perfect keep taking them. My DS had high scores but they had him take it one last time, his second year in college, so he ended up with 32 and up for all subjects.
Yes, it takes a lot of grit to reapply! Our son handled it better than we did
He was a Feb. appointment last year, has no regrets and knows USMA is where he is supposed to be! Good luck
I am a college applicant and I received notification of my appointment two days ago. Notice I say "college applicant" and not "re-applicant" I say this because I did not apply to West Point originally. My first time was this year while I was already in college. However, I do not think this distinction had any wight in when my appointment was sent out. Best of luck to you!
Congratulations! May I ask what classes you took this year?
Thank You! Again I think my schedule is somewhat unique because until recently I want sure whether or not an Acadmey was the best course of action for me so when making my schedule it was built around both the scenario of me staying at my university and me leaving after a year.
Over the summer I took a sociology course to keep me on the premed track and a course called GL required my all freshman at my university.
Fall semester I took Calculus 2, Programming 1 (computer engineer major
), Anthropology (premed) and a medicine course (premed)
This spring I have Chem 2, Upper division psych course (premed), Scuba diving (fun course), Hamilton (fun course about history of Alexander Hamilton) and a leadership course.
Its a somewhat lighter load than one may expect but it gives me time to focus on my sport, other athletics and community service events.
Clearly this schedule was tailored very specifically to me and my situation and does not necessarily fit the typical answer of "take a traditional plebe schedule of math science and English". Hope this helps!
