Despite the concerns of Security at Airports across America due to Gov’t shut down, TSA came to work today en masse! They didn’t let us down and they are true professionals and servant leaders. I’m proud of our TSA. I experienced no delays. I had the pleasure of exchanging laughs with the men and women in blues at the Airport today. Our leaders in the White House and Congress can learn from them. Grow up and get to work or volunteer to not get paid like many others in the Federal Service until they come to practical solutions in their differences. As Brad Lomenick said, our leadership need to learn “Humble, Hungry, and Hustle.” I hope this doesn’t turn into a political debate rather wanted to highlight some good examples of servant leadership that is happening at some of our Airports.

They know in the end they'll get paid, they know if they don't show up for work they'll not get paid and or fired.

Seems pretty simple math

They use sick days they have accrued so pay isn’t an issue. Some may be like a couple federal employees I know that use the accrued sick days to stay home so they don’t have the expense of daycare. The daycares don’t care about a shutdown, they want to get paid. Doesn’t really matter if they will get paid at some date in the future, the fact remains this paycheck will be zero and bills are still due.

You are not kidding about daycares.

tell the socialists to make a move to fix themselves and build the wall and all good

See, this is where the conversation starts to go down the rabbit hole. The next person could easily say "Tell the fascists to make a move to fix themselves and drop the wall and all good" but that would do nothing to advance the conversation.

We can assume the moderators haven’t seen this, having shutdown a thread or banned a poster for less.

@CitadelN88 , if your concern is socialism, look no further than the DOD, said the father of a Signal officer who got elective PRK surgery, 1 week paid medical leave, room and meals for his mother with zero deductible.

Yes, we have. Our decisions for infractions are forthcoming. Infractions resulting in bans follow a process to maintain fairness, so the decisions cannot always be instantaneous.

Before I get the axe (probably deserve it by the way) I just wanted to make a comment more on the thread topic.

The majority of TSA employees here make only $17.00 per hour, in Seattle that can barely cover rent and utilities. I commend those that still show up to keep the airports running while not getting paid. I don't blame those that feel they need to stay home to cut the cost of daycare or feel they need to find other part time gigs to bring in some much needed money for their families. If they can use what sick leave they can to make it through then that may be their only course of action.

Hats off to all those federal employees and the USCG that continue to work to keep what vital operations they can moving now that they have missed their first paycheck. Hope this is resolved sooner then later.

I'm confused......and I truly mean this. Are borders not a reasonable idea any longer?

Who other than the most extreme, goofy left wing nut jobs believe that borders are neither reasonable nor worth defending? Just name one.

Rather than engage, I’ll let my favorite member of Congress do my talking. Rep. Will Hurd is a Republican Congressman with more southern border in his district than anyone else. He is also a former CIA agent.

Don't forget the air traffic controllers, who manage a domestic air system with 1.5 million people in the skies over the US every day, performing an often stressful job. And FAA aviation inspectors. Customs agents. Border guards. Secret Service. US Coast Guard. Federal Bureau of Prisons. FDA food inspectors. Etc.

I'd also like to point out that government shutdowns, now regarded as almost routine in the US, never happen in other democracies around the world. The US was an example of a smooth running democracy once. No more.

This weekend, three weeks into the shutdown, neither house of Congress (with each major US political party having a majority) is even in session - not much of an emergency I guess.

Not assigning blame, just pointing out the awful truth.

A lot of critics of US military expenditures point out that the Pentagon has a massive $750 billion annual budget, vastly more than the next largest militaries in the world.

But the Pentagon spends a lot on things like payroll (GIs are a lot better paid than they have been historically), health care expenses, dependent expenses, off-base housing, education/GI Bill, recruitment & advertising, etc. Troops don't live in Quonset huts anymore.

Moscow & Beijing don't have to worry about any of those expenses.

Rep. Will Hurd sounds coherent, informative, rational and practical.

So, clearly, he has no future in American politics.

He'd better sharpen his resume for a far more lucrative lobbying job. Longer work hours, though. And you have to pay for your own martinis.

Just about all of them, only most wont admit it.
