Calculus

I don't know the official figures. However, USNA strongly encourages candidates to take Calc as a h.s. senior. It's not necessary, but having it as background definitely helps in terms of admissions and making your plebe year Calc course easier. I only had Pre-Calc and struggled with Calculus all three semesters.:frown:

how does it help in admissions?
 
i could be wrong but i would assumeits because since averyone graduates with a bachelors of science there are required calculus classes, they obviously want to appoint people they know will succeed at usna so im thinking its because it will prepare you for the required courses.

Well, I should have been more specific and said it helps if you do well. :smile: USNA wants candidates to take -- and do well in -- the highest possible math and science they can manage. For most h.s. students, Calc is the highest level math offered. Thus, if you take it and do well, you help demonstrate to USNA that you can likely handle the academic challenges there. That, in turn, helps with admissions.
