Has anyone received results from the January Board

If the ROO from GT or AU get in trouble, I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to triangulate who threw him/her under the bus.

I bet the ROOs from both schools can figure out which awardee they have in common and which one was called.

Well, apparently all the schools on my DS's list are following orders, because he hasn't heard a peep. ;) (j/k, j/k, trying to lighten the mood!)

Son just texted me. Very frustrated after reading some of the forum. DS was emailed yesterday from a school not on his list saying he was very competitive, etc. and good luck, He is pretty much exhausted on the AROTC process after completing everything this past August. The saving grace is he is MO NROTC and the Captain wants him to redo his PFT with the Gunny tomorrow. One of his MC sponsors (Former Marine Officer) went into the Recruiting office Tuesday (just found this out) and spoke with the Captain and hand delivered a letter of recommendation. They told him to come in and knock out the PFT and that he is their #3 MO selection out of the 4 they have in mind for the award. The top two kids got awarded in the first board. I'd prefer him go AROTC but he is pretty focused on the MO NROTC program. Think the AROTC process has burned him out. Even more frustrating to him is he has already been accepted to every school for the AROTC and the MO NROTC scholarships. Good luck to everyone and keep your chin up!

Not sure why he would be frustrated, the application process for an AROTC Scholarship is spelled out pretty clear. Complete the application by certain deadlines to meet the following three Boards. Applicants will be selected by all three boards and the dates are listed for each board. Those that are not selected by the first board will roll over to the next, the same goes for the second board.

There are many applicants that are deemed very competitive, more then will be offered scholarships. Being told that they are very competitive is not a guarantee to be selected by the first board, the first board selects very few winners by comparison to the next two boards.

While it's hard to wait for any results it should not be frustrating, Cadet Command has stated that the results would be out by Feb. 1st, it sounds like they may come earlier then that based on a couple previous posts, not sure why that would be frustrating. If he is Exhausted or Burned Out with the AROTC process, which seems to be running right on schedule, before it's even completed, then he will really be exhausted when it comes time for Component Selection, Branch Selection, Post Selection, BOLC dates and so on, all of which can have much longer wait times and deadline dates that come and go.

I'm sure your son understands that the NROTC-MO is a scholarship that is also awarded on a National level, a recruiter may state that they are a top recommendation but it still goes through a National process, the recruiting office doesn't give the scholarship.

Seeing that a few ROO's (none on this board) have disregarded orders not to notify applicants but have done so anyway, it sounds like the results will be out soon.

I can't emphasize enough having had two sons go through this process and commission in the Army, patience is a virtue. Not only during the scholarship process and all through ROTC but the entire time they are in the military.

Best of luck to your son.
I appreciate the feedback and understand what you noted having served myself. I think part of his frustration is that Marine officers have been very upfront and communicative. Call him, text him, etc. on a consistent basis. From his experience, the Marines (at least this office) is a protected fraternity and seeing his friends, that are solid students and very good athletes, be told they are not competitive enough for the NROTC MO is pretty surprising to him. They will not support them in their MO process. He gets emails from Army ROO's at schools about how competitive he is every few months and that is it. Additionally, he has friends that are in college now in AROTC programs that were national scholarship winners and they note that he is more competitive than them but who gets in and who doesn't is out of anyone's control. Patience is key but as noted on this forum people are being informed already regarding their offers. I can understand the frustration.

These ROO's are informing their applicants even though they have been ordered not to, the remaining ROO's are the ones playing by the rules.

The NROTC-MO has only a fraction of the applicants to deal with, being notified by AROTC even every few months is a sign they are interested, most applicants don't hear much from programs.

My son applied for the January boards and just received his phone call. He got 4 year ROTC to Georgia Tech and Auburn University.
Dumb question, is your DS admitted to GT & AU already?. Is it possible to get the Scholarship then not get admitted to the applicable University? Do the ROs know who is admitted before they are awarded the scholarships??

Not a dumb question...happens all the time. Having a scholarship offer can help with getting admitted in some cases, and if you aren’t admitted there is a transfer request process which allows you to take you scholarship to a school you have been admitted to.

DS received a text from his 3rd choice saying "ROTC scholarships will be released soon. Make the most of your ROTC scholarship at the _ _ _. We have financial benefits that can be added to an ROTC scholarship." He didn't get this on the first board. He did get an email saying he wasn't selected on the first board. Keeping our fingers crossed that this is a good sign!!

Good luck to your DS!

Thanks.. We are hoping for good news!

They don’t know about admission status but your DS/DD can let admissions know they rec’d ROTC scholarship. Last year my son was waitlisted at one of his schools, but he informed them of his ROTC scholarship and within 2 weeks he was informed he was fully accepted. So it can help to just let admissions know- but I’m not saying it’s a guarantee. Good luck today! Hoping the best for all your kiddos!

Kid got an email that said something like "results coming soon, our program is strong, etc., etc.". What does that mean? I'm with Clarkson & Montana, I'd rather ROs remain slient until decisions released. Now, if kid doesn't get anything, everyone will feel crushed and frankly, I'll be really mad. To the ROs, I just want to say follow orders and the rules. I feel like their should be a quiet or no contact period prior to decision relase. Information that is not consistent being released by schools causes too many to come to a conclusion that may or may not be correct .

Before anyone asks, I don't feel comfortable giving the school name. I realize I'm being somewhat of a hypocrite.
