Who has attended MMI?

If you are serious about going to West Point do not go to NMMI. Marion is the place you want to attend. My DS went to NMMI as an unsponsored Prep. He ended up number one on their Order of Merit with a 4.0 GPA. They pushed him hard to take an ROTC commission through their ECP program. They rode him constantly in the ROTC classes telling him his "bars would be just as gold" and that West Point was a joke. At the end of the year I talked to the Master Chief in charge of the Prep Program and he did not even know my DS was number one at the school. He also told me he did not talk to West point (he told me he had never talked to their admission department and did not even know the phone number) Admissions and had no idea if my DS had any chance of getting in. Once West Point found out he was number one they gave him an AOG scholarship. They told us if they had known earlier that he was number one at NMMI he would have been accepted but the school never told the RC. In the end DS got the AOG scholarship and "off the record" we were told serious candidates go to Marion. He transferred and won their "Future Warrior Award" at Marion. The administration at Marion met with them weekly and was in constant contact with the Academies. Many in their administration were West Point graduates including the people in charge of the Prep program. DS is now a plebe and loves it. Bottom line, the facilities at NMMI were nice. If you are looking for results Marion is the place to go.

That is not a path for the faint of heart. In fact as we both know your DS was the only candidate to make it through the cycle this time last year. As I remember from my DS it certainly did take his mind off everything else going on at the time..

The Swamps Foxes have a long and distinguished history at Marion. No one that has made it through Swamp Fox selection has ever failed out of Ranger School or SFQC (they actually keep record of this information). These young men (and as I understand it one woman) are straight up studs. Some of the children that have gone to this program have trained for it all their lives and they have been trained by soldiers that have lived it. It is also correct that sometimes, only one or zero volunteers for the Swamp Fox Beret get it. The point is that running miles holding 45 pound weights over your head, sitting in holes filled with water and ice and having to do 69 pullups before every meal will take your mind off home sickness.

Yes, it certainly will. My DS lasted all of one morning - great program but not for the faint of heart (or those too lazy to get up that early).

This is spot on - MMI (Marion) is all about West Point! My son is there now and the head of the SAP program (for all academies) is a USMA graduate. Seventeen MMI cadets have already received their appointments for this year under him!

LTC Bowen is all about getting as many members of the SAP program appointments as possible and has been very successful. BTW the number of USMA appointments for MMI this year is now up to 20.
