Yesterday I recieved notification that I recieved my MOCs principal nomination for the usafa. Ive read that appointment letters start getting sent out in march, but is this the case for all appointments? Is the timeline any different for principal nominees?
Thanks for any help!

Congratulations on your principal nomination and good luck waiting! My DD was also our MOC's principal nominee, and we're still waiting for his press release. We've made that our topic of anxiety now, as we know the appointment will come according to a timeline that we could never comprehend. I have heard that prep school cadets will likely receive their appointments earlier, sometime in February, but nothing definite. Congratulations again!

Really? I heard the Preppies probably wouldn't hear until Finals week in May?!

Being a principal nominee is a big step forward. Whether or not you get a BFE or TWE — and when — is still up in the air. The SAs move to their own rhythm, there’s not always a logic that we mere mortals understand, what was true in the past may not be true now.

DD was a principal nominee for West Point but didn’t receive offer of appointment until March. So be patient and go enjoy your senior year. Best wishes.

My DD received the principal nomination from her MOC and was notified of this on 12/24 by a phone call from him. Her portal wasn’t updated until 1/10 reflecting the nomination and she just received her official appointment offer on Wednesday 1/30! So hopefully you’ll hear soon and before March but just know it does take a little wait as we waited anxiously over a month!

I received a MOC nomination for all 3 academies. I heard that there are very few candidate nomination request in my district. Actually I received 2 from my congressman for my USMA application. What does it mean for me if my district rarely has nomination requests?

It means you’re lucky! There were roughly 500-600 nomination application for each of my senators and around 400-500 for my congressman.

My senators one was submitted by mail as requested but there was a bomb threat at his office that day and we don't know what happened to it. We never heard from him and his office is not easy to get in touch with. So we submitted it online as directed also... but who knows. Am grateful I have congressional nominations.

Wow. My MOC had 14 across all academies together...made the nomination process a lot less stressful and more of just a box to tick.

How long is the wait from notification from MOC an appointment was offered before the portal is updated and the BFE arrives in the mailbox generally?

Historically, they have waited about a week from the decision to the portal update to allow the MOC to make contact with the appointee. DS received his formal certificate from his ALO a couple of months after he accepted his appointment, but the appointee checklist with his pre-reporting deliverables posted to his portal shortly after acceptance.

Thank you.

My DS received notification that he was our MOC's principal nomination on 1/29. The portal updated to show that a nomination was received, but there has been no other action since that date. Do they usually go ahead and process principal nominations fairly quickly, since I guess technically there is no ranking process to go through, or is it a waiting game until March or later like all other applicants? Thanks in advance.

I was principal nominee for my congressman and my nomination appeared on my portal early-mid December (can't remember specific date). I received appointment on my portal January 15. Looks like it takes about a month if principal, but now that March is so close I would expect to hear around when most candidates do anyways.

CV, I appreciate the information. We were assuming it would likely be March or later since the nomination came in right before the application deadline. Congratulations on your appointment.

Our Senator had 600 applicants and our Congressman had about 400! Both of them only have one slot each into this class.

Our DS has a principal nom since 16 Dec but has not heard anything yet so I don't know if the one month turnaround time is true of all situations. This waiting, although slightly nerve racking, is getting him ready for all the waiting he'll do in his future career waiting on orders, waiting on assignments, etc [emoji6]

Slightly out of touch question: where did you folks get those numbers?
