Getting Glasses

Hi y’all
I have completed my DODMERB eye and physical exams for Marine option NROTC. During the eye exam, my doctor said I am slightly nearsighted in one eye and have a small astigmatism, which he said shouldn’t be a problem. I always thought I had 20/20 vision and I’ve never had glasses. I called the office to ask what my prescription would be and they said they couldn’t release my info to me and that I have to see my regular doctor. My question is this: if my regular doctor prescribes glasses is that a DQ for not having 20/20 vision or is it ok because it is correctable? Also, how would I go about informing DODMERB of the change? Normally I would just let DODMERB tell me if I need glasses but I feel like it is wrong to risk driving or performing other tasks knowing I should have glasses to assist me

For driving, “The minimum visual acuity requirements are 20/40 in at least one eye and no less than 20/70 in the other eye, with or without correction.“

And right in the scholarship package it directly mentions being not being correctable to 20/20 is the most common medical issue so I have to imagine if you are correctable to 20/20 you’re fine.

Two of the big standards with eyes/vision are visual acuity and refraction.

So long as you're correctable to 20/20 you meet visual acuity standards.

Refraction is how much (or little) "lens power" your eye glasses or contacts need to be to get you to 20/20.

In your case, with your eye doctor saying you are "slightly" nearsighted in one eye and have a "small" astigmatism, then you probably meet the refraction standards too. Just to be sure, what is your eye glasses prescription?

You are not DQ if you're correctable to 20/20 and your refraction isn't too bad (doesn't appear to be from what you've posted on this forum).

What change are you talking about reporting to DODMERB? Your eye exam should have been forwarded to DODMERB by the eye doctor.

I don’t know my prescription, for some reason they refused to tel me and just said DODMERB would tel me eventually. As for as informing DODMERB I thought we were supposed to inform them of any changes from the medical questionnaire we filled out. I originally told them that I don’t wear glasses, but if I end up getting them after my private appointment then wouldn’t I need to inform them?
