How are people notified of an appointment to NAPS?

Hello, I was curious about how people are notified about an appointment to NAPS? My blue and gold officer is almost certain that if I were denied I'd be offered an appointment to NAPS, but how does that typically happen? Am I first denied and then later told about being able to go to NAPS? And does it come through mail, email, or will my BGO tell me? Approximately how long does it take to find out about an appointment to NAPS?

For our DD (naps '16, current plebe), she got an email from BGO that she did not get an appointment to USNA, but to expect a NAPS "appointment" within the week. She received the NAPS admission offer in the mail the next day. This was in mid to late January.

My daughter received her appointment offer via email (to NAPS), she never received any type of rejection letter from the Academy

Just got an unsolicited email addressed to me from New Mexico Military Institute Admissions with the subject line, "Welcome".
My USNA status is till CPR. I have already been granted a NROTC Scholarship to a University in California (but haven't been admitted).
Does this mean I've been assigned to NAPS or is a "try again next year" notice coming?
Anyone else get this email?

I am answering here rather than your dupe post in the USNA Appointments List thread.

Hearing from NMMI does not equate to an invitation to attend NAPS, though the USNA Foundation is heavily involved with Admissions.

One of the possible scenarios is that info has gotten out of sequence, and an offer of a Foundation scholarship may be on the way, but not an offer of appointment to USNA this year. NMMI and other Foundation schools may have received a list of potential Foundation scholars. “MAY” is the operative word - sit tight. Decisions are being made.

Thank you for your response. It seems NMMI is for students who need further assistance with their grades or test scores.
Both my grades and test scores are high with several honors level AP scores in Math and Sciences. I also have been an officer and member of my HS NJROTC program for 4 years and a 4 year Varsity tennis player with good scores on my CFA.
What other reasons are students referred to preparatory schools?

NMMI gets many email addresses each year from SAT and ACT according to the interests you checked and schools you sent your scores to.
NAPS has nothing to do with NMMI. Civil prep offers are called USNA foundation offers. You would be informed if you got a civil prep offer before any prep school would contact you.

I agree that NMMI probably somehow got your data. If you were to get a foundation offer you would know. First you be notified you got that then go through a school selection process. And as mentioned NAPS and Foundation are two separate things. You would be selected for one or the other.

Candidates are selected for Foundation for a variety of reasons. NMMI is one of many schools USNA partners with for the program. Candidates get to pick what school they want to attend out of list. The USNA website has all this information and the list.

I was sent an email by USNA admissions about a status change in my portal
