What does this mean?

I will have her call DoDMERB tomorrow … she sent by email the 2 independent Audiology Doctor results last week to her DoDMERB handler. Then, she sent the results to her USNA AO, and he got them to the Medical dept at USNA.

What is disturbing, is that the original Audiology test on her ears in early September was done on a machine that was last Calibrated more than 3 years ago. We got a copy of the exam, and on the header part that prints the test machine Model, Serial, etc … it also showed the Calibration date …. I was concerned and called a Local medical equipment servicing company, and they said the Audiology exam equipment should go through a yearly Re-Calibration test and adjustment.

Anyway, we made DoDMERB and USNA aware of this as well … Her 2 retests show that she is below all the DB Thresholds.

It sounds like everything will be good to go. Kudos to you guys for staying on top of what seems to be an error on the part of the testing facility.

My “required actions” also changed to none. USNA confirmed that this meant I have received a waiver. To provide a time frame: My portal changed Saturday or Sunday and dodmerb updated on Wednesday.

When do we get the appointment offer? Are you still waiting?

I am still waiting as well. I assume that the earliest we will hear is around a week from the next time the admissions board meets. I believe USNA gives MOC a week to notify their constituents before updating the portal.

Got it … So maybe next week for daughter's DoDMERB status, since her Academy portal went to "None" yesterday.

Our daughter is waiting too ….

Look at the bottom of the Candidate Status Portal in the DoDMERB section it should say the following, then search Google on the email address "nomapps@usna.edu", and see the very few hits … This is a strong Indicator …

If any illness, surgery, or injury has occurred since the time of your initial DODMERB medical examination, send details and substantiating doctor's statement to nomapps@usna.edu.

My son read that to me when I was in doctors office.

I didn’t see it on DoDMERB site ... and it wasn’t in the screenshot he sent me from his portal. But he did read that to me.

This statement and email address [nomapps@usna.edu] is on the Candidate's Status page at USNA.edu (not on DoDMERB). From what I can tell, this account is used exclusively for the candidates who are/will be offered Appointments or have already Accepted to start streaming in Immunization Records, and all other Pre-Reporting day docs including changes to medical situation if it occurs.

I searched Google, and the Email account only appears on Class-of 20xx reporting instruction PDFs, etc.

My son’s portal for required action changed from medical qualification to none.

Our 20 got his waiver for color blindness in January 2016. The BGO called to tell me he had just gotten the update that he was triple qualified. I overdosed on the Internet to confirm it meant they were admitting him. Couldn't find anything although the BGO said he was certain it did. Since there can be no more than 24 cb waivers, they don't usually do them unless they are going to admit. I almost talked him out of his certainty. MOC called a week later. BFE arrived a few days later. Joined his 17 brother that June.

Congrats to you. It will be the ride of your life. We are in year 6 of our family's journey by the Severn. It's absolutely amazing.

Admissions told my son that he will be getting his golden ticket on his portal within a week. She said there is another computer system involved and it can take up to a week.

I picked my son up from school. He was so happy. He said the admiration and respect from his teachers made him happy.

One teacher told him he has a son of a friend that goes to St Johns. Told my son to get on the croquet team ... and how great the rivalry is.

My son wants to find a way to get on the 13th company so he can run the football up. :)

28th company plays the croquet game. 13th runs the ball. Croquet is a blast to attend. Thousands show up for it every years.

I don’t think so because my portal says this and I haven’t gotten an appointment

His principal just called him to the office to take his MOC’s phone call announcing the appointment. It was the MOC who nominated him ... not the one who replaced her.

She told him the portal will have the acceptance by Wednesday.

She told him he was the one recommended to the Naval Academy as the best candidate. :)

What can I say? We were ahead of Congress. ;)

DD was 28. They loved the game against St Johns. Great fun and pictures, wish I could have seen it just once.

Hi Congratulations and thanks for sharing this. Our son received a letter of assurance welcoming him to the class but later did not get a color vision waiver. Can you let me know your experience on getting this? They had told him with the LOA that the waiver was a sure thing, but it seems the DODMERB folks are not aligned with admissions on this. His B&G officer asked for an example of someone who received a color waiver. I'd love to help them get this for him.
Thanks

My experience has taught me that I am not smart enough to figure out the hows and the whys. You can’t and don’t have all the variables that go into decisions comparing year to year, or even candidate to candidate in the same year.

My son got an LOA in December and failed his color blind test in December, a week later. According to two portals, the waiver was initiated fairly quickly in January. Admissions told my son it was sent to the Superintendent in middle of January for approval.

We both quietly took that as a good sign - it sounded like admissions recommended that the waiver get signed. But I think that was just our minds working in overdrive searching for signs that probably didn’t exist.

It is my understanding that the waiver is not a sure thing. We felt like it was 50/50. What matters is how the candidate fits for what they are looking for, and what the slate looked like. For all we know, he might not have gotten it if another candidate on his slate was a better fit somehow.

If it’s true that approximately 8% of men are color blind .... knowing they only can give up to 24 a year means there are less that get them than don’t.

Once the waiver was requested, there is nothing you can do. We got lucky.

Thanks for the reply.
I have to think there is a way. This young man is such a perfect fit in all ways other than his vision.
It's not over until I-day I guess, but after giving him so much hope it's a hard blow.
Don't get me wrong, he'll be a great engineer if he doesn't get in. He just wants to serve in this way.
