USAFA Summer Seminar 2019

Does anyone know when notifications about acceptance / denials will come out?
Last year, decisions were posted to portals on March 1st. The @academyadmissions instagram page was posting about when the decisions would come out last year, so you can always keep an eye on social media admissions pages as they are usually very responsive. There has not been much activity this year though.

Okay, thanks!!

I used my SS Application as part of the Class of 2023 application and it saved me time. From information on my portal regarding rolling admissions:

“The Directorate of Admissions utilizes a "rolling" method of promoting applicants to candidate status and setting deadlines for the completion of the candidate kit. Applicants will be promoted in the order they applied and most deadlines to complete the candidate kit will occur between the 1st of November and the 31st of January. Once you are promoted to candidate status your specific deadline will be posted on your portal. Please be aware of the deadline since failure to complete the required items by the deadline will disqualify your application. We will send periodic reminders to you when you are two months, one month, two weeks, and one week from the deadline.
Promotions to candidate status will not start until the 1st of July. We expect that most applicants that meet our candidate guidelines and that applied before the 1st of July will be promoted to candidate status by the end of July. Applicants promoted to candidate status between the 1st of July and the 30th of September will have at least four months to complete their required items. Applicants promoted to candidate status on or after the 1st of October will typically have a deadline of the 31st of January to complete these tasks.
The Directorate of Admissions uses this method in order to provide better service to our candidates. Historical analysis shows that when we use a single deadline for all candidates the corresponding surge in our workload (as that deadline approaches) degrades our ability to respond to our candidates' inquires. Using the rolling deadlines method realigns some of the workload to lower peak periods so that we can better serve you.”

My application deadline for USAFA was November 15. I have attached a screenshot from my portal with a list of dates when things happened. FYI- I was “declined” for admission into SS (but I got into NASS and SLE). Yet I earned an appointment to USAFA and couldn’t be happier!

Congratulations on your appointment.

Hello, I know there are about 4,000 other competitive junior kids trying to get into the Summer Seminar and then hopefully attend the academy once they graduate, as I do. When I started the application for the summer seminar it seemed pretty straight forward, nothing super complex. The only question I have is on the last page when you are about to hit submit you have two choices one that says "I certify that the information I have supplied with this application to the US Air Force Academy Summer Seminar program is complete and correct to the best of my knowledge. I further affirm than any additions or modifications I make to this application at a later date or time are covered by this certification." and you can check off that box and then another box that says "Option to Apply to the USAFA class of 2024:
In addition to Summer Seminar, please use this submission as an application to the United States Air Force Academy class of 2024. I understand that my application will automatically be considered when general applications open on March 1." I do want to apply to USAFA class of 2024 but Im not sure if it is a good idea to send out the information that I have from my summer seminar. Should I wait till I bring up my SAT score and do many more community service hours, I also believe multiple things will advance on my resume this year and I am not sure if I want the people seeing my application to see not the most recent information. What does everyone else think? please get back to me as soon you can. thank you

if you click on yes on Option to apply to the USAA class of 2024 if there are changes, such as new classes, new activity CAP promotions could you still update that information in the actual application?

Yes you can still add all items like that later on

My oldest son received his "I'm sorry but no" email to summer seminar this time of year when he applied (2 years ago). Curious if anyone has heard for this year either way yet?

As of today 11 FEB, I haven't heard back yet. No email, and my portal still says it's under consideration. I did get an email from ALO saying USAFA SS favors underrepresented congressional districts and that my district was not one historically. It looks like I will have to wait some more and see what happens.

Please remember, acceptance into SS does NOT have any bearing on whether you are competitive for admission. DS was waitlisted and eventually declined for USAFA SS. He finished his application in mid-November this year and received an LOA in mid-December and an appointment in January.

That being said if you get a chance you should go. It's a great tool to see if academy life if for you. DS and one of his classmates both attended NASS. DS loved it, his classmate decided not to apply.

Last year they told everyone whether or not they were accepted to SS on March 1st. I cannot stress this enough SS acceptance has nothing to do with chances of an appointment. I wasn't given a slot to the summer seminar and was honestly crushed thinking my academy hopes were over. Fast forward 6 months and I received an LOA, a Senatorial Nom, and already accepted my appointment. Good luck

My DS got his acceptance email for USAFA Summer Seminar just today. Now we are waiting to hear from WPSLE and the Naval Academy.

DD also got USAFA SS acceptance email today.

Congrats to y'all for getting into the SS. I looked at my email today wondering if they had posted it and I got accepted. I am so happy. I cant wait to meet y'all in June and hopefully we will all have a blast together. Now I have to start my Summer seminar for the Naval Academy and SLE for West Point. I am still deciding which day to pick, so we will see. But I know which ever day I pick I will still be super happy and have a great time.

I got into USAFA SS too! I chose session B, still waiting to hear back from USNA and SLE but fingers crossed. Congrats to you all and good luck! It’ll be a fun summer.

DS accepted Session A from 6/10/2019 through 6/14/2019 this morning before leaving for school. Very excited for him. Still no word on WP SLE; "Pending" status, or USNA (which historically announces later), but with a week at USAFA SS and a week at Boys State, it's already looking like a busy summer for him.
