Good morning - new to posting in this forum, but have been lurking for a few months - thanks to everyone for all of the really good information, it's been extremely helpful in understanding this process. My question is that DD was DQ'ed by DODMERB as we knew she would be. However, they have just asked for remedials in order to consider a waiver. Does this mean that she is possibly still in the running for either NAPS/Foundation scholarship or an appointment? I read that the SA will only start the waiver process if the applicant is competitive so I guess I'm looking for a little reassurance. Like it is for everyone else this is a long road - a little light at the end of the tunnel would be welcome. Thanks in advance and apologize if this is the 4000th time the question has been asked. :)

A candidate is always in the running until they get a TWE.

Requesting additional information, ie. remedial doesn't mean anything except DODMERB is collecting the information necessary for SA to consider a waiver. You shouldn't read anything into this. Just do what DODMERB says, as soon as practical.

A word of caution (for all). Each medical issue is different, and while processes (ie.. remedial, SA waiver) are generally consistent, what worked for one applicant with a given issue does not necessarily apply to the next. There is a reason (in addition to privacy) BGO's are directed to stay out of the medical realm. If you have a question about medical issues, DODMERB and the USNA Admissions Medical Director are the people you should take advice from.

Do the remedial actions right away stay up on what they are requesting you do and do it as soon as possible. I guess the fact that they are even requesting a remedial is something. They want to know more information about the disqalifier. You indicated you anticipated so hopefully it is something that could be clarified in a remedial. Or something that is waiverable. My DD had to do a remedial and it was a bit of an ordeal getting information on practice they wanted her to go to and then actually getting the appointment.

So this means that DODMERB is collecting additional medical information and it will be up to USNA to determine what they do about it (waiver or not). The letter said "At the request of USNA a subsequent review of your medical examination was conducted....determined AMI is required before we can make a final determination. Waiver processing will continue upon completion and return of requested results to DODMERB".
