NROTC Navy Results

Additionally, as a person processes through their senior year, and face actually making their post high school choices, NROTC may be a better fit overall.
Not senior year, but this was my DS' case. As a high school freshman, he wanted to go to USNA. He applied for NASS, but did not get in. His interest in USNA started to wane as a sophomore and as a junior, he said he still wanted to be a naval officer, but he really wanted to have a "normal" college experience. He did not want that 24/7 military experience in college. He had never heard of ROTC, so I told him a little about it. He took it from there looked up some information about the program and decided it fit what he wanted to do. Now he couldn't be happier with his decision. He is loving his NROTC experience and his civilian college experience.

My DS just looked at his portal and it now shows that he was selected for a National NROTC Scholarship Navy Option. He had looked earlier this morning and there had been no change, so this must have happened in the past 2 or 3 house. There were delays getting all of his paperwork signed and submitted, so his package wasn't ready until February. I'm guessing that his package was presented to the February board. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear!

I just checked and still have a selection status of “No decision has been made on your application”

My son also just informed me that he is NROTC 4-year Scholarship winner! He has already accepted an AROTC Scholarship, so now has some great choices to make. Does it make sense to accept both scholarships until he is done with the DODMERB process, even if he is leaning toward one or the other? He would decline whichever scholarship he is not going to accept as soon as he is cleared, to get it back "into the pot". Or should he just choose one and go for it?

When do colleges usually start sending out acceptances/rejections for people who applied RD? I heard back from my state U but still waiting on the others.

Also, I got this letter yesterday from my state U that says they are going to tack a $1,000 fee surcharge per semester for engineering students because they say it's more expensive. Will this fee be covered by my NROTC scholarship or is this something I need to pay myself?

?

Each school has a different RD date but for DS the dates range from March 14 to April 5

Yes, accept any and all scholarships. Once the DODMERB process is complete and school acceptances have come in and he knows what his first choice is, then he can decline any scholarship he will not be using. I'm not sure it will go back "into the pot" though. each service plans for a certain percentage of scholarships they award to go unused, as applicants apply to more than one ROTC program, service academies and other scholarship programs. Congratulations to your DS!

Agree on the above that schools have different dates. Some schools also release RD decisions in batches. May 1 is National Decision Day for colleges, so you would for sure know by then, probably at least a couple weeks before that I would guess. As for the engineering program fee, NROTC will cover your tuition and any required fees, so this would be covered under your scholarship. Your school probably has several fees that will be covered. Last year I was surprised at all the "fees" tacked on above tuition, all of which were paid by the scholarship.

Keep your spirits up; you are still under consideration until they say you will not be awarded a scholarship. Some of those notices have already gone out.

I know, and I also received an AFROTC scholarship Friday, so that definitely makes the waiting a lot more tolerable. It’s really nice to have an extremely solid backup fro NROTC and USNA. I received a 4 year Type 7 Tech Scholarship for AFROTC which I would use at Texas A&M. I’ve already been accepted to the university and College of Engineering, so I’ve got my backup in place.

Congratulations to those that have heard positive news today! Exciting day for sure.

Still no change in my son's status, so we ll keep our fingers crossed.

Our DD found out today she was awarded the NROTC National Scholarship. She accepted it, but had to fill out a Placement Change form to change her school. She was placed with her # 1 school UT Austin, but will be attending Ohio State. Hopefully they can move it there. Very happy for her. Best of luck to all who haven't heard yet. She's been waiting for this news since September 2018.

Congratulations to those who've gotten picked up.

To add to the data points, I got picked up April 24 of last year. As others have mentioned, it can be a rough ride waiting (especially with Medical Waivers -- my tangible PQ letter didn't come until after NSO :)), but it was all worth it.

@BarryD Interesting you speak to medical waivers because I was coming back to the board to ask about that. DS was awarded the 4 year NROTC (above post - placed at Texas A&M). He is DQ'd medically and needs a waiver. I assume NROTC knew that and will begin the process of the waiver now? His Dodmerb portal shows NROTC was notified of his medical status 3 weeks ago. Does DS need to reach out to anyone at NORTC regarding the waiver process? And if so, does he reach out to the NROTC contact at Texas A&M or someone else?
