My son began the AFROTC at the beginning of last school term but was medically disqualified because of an assumed allergy to shrimp. About 2 years ago he had a reaction to something after eating at a restaurant. During the follow-up doctor's visit, the doctor suggested that it may have been the shrimp and wrote it up in his files. NO ALLERGY TESTING WAS DONE AT THAT TIME. When my son completed his physical for the ROTC, he stated that he had an allergy to shrimp and was later medically disqualified. When he questioned the disqualification because the allergy was never tested, he was told that he needed to take an allergy test. He took the blood food allergy test recommended by his doctor in May at a cost of $400 to my family. The test returned "NEGATIVE," NO DETECTABLE FOOD ALLERGIES and a copy of the test results was sent to the school's ROTC program. However, we just learned that he is again medically disqualified because of the shrimp allergy even though the allergy is non existent. Help me understand the problem. Is there a way to make contact to the powers that make the decisions? Is there anything we can do??

You might want to repost this in the DoDMERB forum and then send your son's name and the last 4 of his SSN to Mr Mullen. You'll find his email in several of the threads in that section of the board. He is the man who can help you with the process. Note his title.

Wishing you the best for your son!

Moved to the DODMERB forum so Mr. Mullen can take a look at the thread. If you want to beat him to it go ahead and send him your son's name and last 4 of his social to Mr. Mullen's email address as was suggested above.

You will be amazed at what service you can get if you follow the advice here.

I think the mods moved this to the DoDMERB section since my reply. Thanks...

I'm sure Mr Mullen will be replying soon...:thumb:
