Is it okay to loose faith?

In these past few months, I have watched on this forum as I have seen many well-deserving candidates receive offers of appointments. Through looking at their posts and all, I recognize that I am nowhere near as smart, athletically inclined, etc. At this point, is it ok for me to feel the way I do and begin losing faith? I have my plan B picked out and am just waiting to hear a decision from USNA to either accept or reject their offers.
 
Heck no. They are just teaching you patience, to the extreme :)

Also remember, the WCS encapsulates more than the data points typically shared on these forums. Each candidate brings a unique set of strengths and weaknesses and we are typically not in a position to assess which candidate helps complete the "puzzle" that USNA is putting together for the Class of 2023.
 
DS got a TWE in February of last year. Went on to play College Football at a very tough private college and although it’s a grind is doing great! He reapplied and is still waiting for the TWE this year. His test scores just aren’t good enough I’m afraid. He is all set to go to Quantico at the end of May for the first summer of PLC for the Marines. We are all hopeful for Navy, but realistic as there are more qualified applicants than position. Embrace your plan B and move on..... there are a lot of success stories that start with rejection. That said, keep believing until you know for sure. Best of luck!!!

With his attitude and grit, USNA would have a solid midshipman if they choose to appoint him.

Hopefully I will see your name on the appointment thread in the coming weeks.
 
My guess that among those who have already received a yes and those who will receive a yes, maybe 1% of them really think they are good enough to get it. The rest are like you, waiting and panicking they wont and arent good enough. In other words, relax, if you made it this far, you have a good shot. If they ultimately say no, it isnt because you arent good enough, sometimes they just run out of space
 
Remember this is a self reported forum. Don’t get too wrapped up in what you see. This is simply about putting your best package together. If you did that at the end of the day you can’t fault yourself in any way. In the military you have to learn a phrase.... ‘the worst they can do is tell me no.’ People apply for all kinds of things and get told no. You learn that you won’t get it unless you apply and all you can do is put your best package together and let the cards fall where they may. The military is honestly a long list of competing and applying for things; grad school programs, exchange programs, the best tours, follow on PME, Test Pilot School, Blue Angels, astronaut, command. That is just a few of many. I listed some pretty prestigious programs on there, but I list them, because I have friends who are or were all of them. You think my buddies who are astronauts thought they would get it? Nope, but they tried. As an officer, you will help your Sailors or Marines apply for all sorts of stuff, it’s your job to set them up for this, guide them and assist them. It’s all a learning lesson. You aren’t out of the game. If you get a TWE, your response to it will be a huge lesson to who you are as a young man forging your future. Hang in there and keep working on Plan B and beyond while your Plan A plays out.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but this really just cheered me up a ton. I think it’s easy to doubt yourself when you see what a lot of other people have over you on this forum. Good luck to everyone who, like me, are still anxiously waiting. You are not out until you receive a TWE.

It’s more than ok, it’s 100% high functioning human. Humans have dreams and goals and doubts and regrets and successes and failures. Anybody who tells you they have some of those things without the others are either sociopaths or liers. On our best days, humans behave like I have observed you behave on this thread. You face the world with a refreshing mix of optimism, humility, and clear eyed honesty.

I’m pulling like heck for you to get this. But in all honesty, in the grand scheme of things, Appointed or not, it won’t change what I suspect you already are: a damn fine human being.

JoeAmerican0921 don’t lose faith in your desire to serve as an officer in The Navy in case you don’t get in to the academy ! It’s ok if you get the TWE and feel bummed , my DS is reapplicant for USAFA and I’m having to remind him selections for these academies is often a political game . Sounds to me like your a humble fella who would make a fantastic officer . Hopefully your plan B involves NROTC ?

Yes ma'am. Plan B is either NROTC marine option or PLC while attending college.
 
Thank every one of y'all who have responded. This makes me feel better. I wish the best to each and every single one of you. I do plan to reapply if I get a TWE next year. I hope each of you (and your DSes and DDes) achieve what they want with great excellence. God speed in your future endeavors.

Don't lose faith, my DS got into an academy without 90% of what everyone has (according to stats), but he solid all around and is a great interviewer with some outstanding leadership skills. I believe that until you hear a "NO" your still in the hunt!!

Don't lose faith, my DS got into an academy without 90% of what everyone has (according to stats), but he solid all around and is a great interviewer with some outstanding leadership skills. I believe that until you hear a "NO" your still in the hunt!!

Dah19 that is great news! My son has great test scores 35 on ACT. 3 years Varsity football, lacrosse, Lots of leadership, School Newspaper editor,Volunteer Fire fighter for the last two years. He is the busiest kid I know and very diversified from football to accapella. Grades are good B and A bit more B. He is our last one and we definitely didn’t push the grades because he is a smart kid-we wanted him to be well rounded. He has two noms. This is his dream and we are all pulling for him- your story is encouraging. We were starting to feel discouraged. Did your son get into usna?

Don't give up the ship! I know it's hard because I am in the same boat but keep faith and keep pushing forward. After all, we will know something within the next month and the application has taken most of us over a year to complete and it has years of accomplishments on it. Relax and trust the process.
