USAFA Class of 2023 Appointment Thread

Feeling anxious here. Still no news for my child. Any idea how many more spots are available? Will every cadet get a call, letter, and email if appointed?

Apparently, approximately 400 appointments went out yesterday across all districts across the nation (This was clearly evident due to the amount of activity there was on this forum yesterday with regards to self-reported appointments). Prior to this, a little bit less than 200 appointments were sent out I believe. That number may be a bit incorrect, but it's around there. So give or take about 600-700 appointments have been given. Once again, that is an approximation. According to an article, the class of 2023 will be the smallest class since 2016 due to the low dropout rate at USAFA right now. That article I am referring too is actually posted on this forum, which is where I am getting this information from. From what I have experienced and heard, if you do not hear anything by April 1, you can safely assume you are not getting appointed to the present cycle. Yes, there are rare cases where appointments are given after, but the likelihood is almost as rare as receiving an LOA (just to give a comparison).

So to answer your question, there most definitely are spots left, hope is not lost, but there is no telling how many. People can decline their appointment so that does give some extra room. Seeing as there are 2 weeks left until April, all you can do is wait. There should be at least one more big wave like there was yesterday. The waiting is exhausting and very dreadful sometimes, but being patient is really all you can do. Your child will receive an email saying that their portal has updated for whatever offer they get (Prep, Falcon, Direct) and for a rejection. No matter what, you will get a letter from USAFA stating one of these 4 results. For a call, you may get a call from your MOC but not many do, it is really up to them. According to the candidate kit guide, the majority of appointments are made between mid-late March. As much as it pains many to not have received anything yesterday due to the big wave is demoralizing but USAFA is not done quite yet. Keep your head up and continue the grind.

I hope this helps. I wish everyone still waiting the very best of luck!

This definitely helped! I have not heard from USAFA and this reminded me to still have some faith... no news is good news I guess!

For those appointed, congratulations and enjoy your next 12 weeks which I call the "rock star" phase! Because all the celebrity treatment ends June 27 when pressure starts...….and doesn't stop for 9 months. Running, pushups, sit-ups, and flutter kicks should become your best friends until I-day... or they will be your worst enemies after I-day.

Still waiting here. I’ll be honest I was pretty dissapointed yesterday but I’m seriously happy for everyone who got their appointments. I got a nom from both senators and my rep but am still anxiously waiting. Anyone know when the next big wave is expected?

This month.

Has anybody gotten news that they haven't been accepted or that their application has been denied yet (class of 2023)?

I’ve been accepted into USNA and USMA via presidential, but I feel like USAFA would really be the place for me. Just holding out; “it ain’t over until it’s over” Best Wishes

Not sure where you get this info from or what your connection to Academy knowledge is but I kinda hope your right ! Last year DS got TWE on April 12th when most of them went out , still holding out hope but in a way was relieved when he got the TWE because we could stop sweating it and move on with Plan B. I tell you all I would LOVE my DS to get an answer ASAP ( April 1st would be wayyyyy better than mid April )so we can pick up the pieces and move on with life ( and I might be able to sleep better and quit checking this thread lol !)

Nice conversation I had with the recruiting Luitenant for AFROTC at his Plan B School yesterday , he had applied for AFA 3 times and was rejected , went on through AFROTC through local university and got a pilot slot .

My DS is super resilient and positive like me , but I know he will be crushed to a certain extent if he doesn’t get in as he has bolstered his app since last year by going through the AFJROTC Flight Academy and earning his PPL , increasing his ACT by 7 points and SAT by 150 points , and slaying it grades and leadership-wise at his prep school .

My opinion and advice to any other parents whose kids don’t get in to Academy this year who have done everything possible is ........ it’s the Academy’s loss! They will go on to be an officer through other means

That’s going to be tough since most schools application deadlines have passed.

Also still waiting.....
DS has
-1400 SAT/29 ACT
- Admitted to UCF/ASU/USF and their associated honors colleges
- AFROTC scholarship......
but AF Academy would trump them all

We all have to remember that there are a lot of really good kids that don’t get in.
I think it’s still way to early to turn negative.

If you look at last year, the "big wave" actually occurred over a 2 week period. This year, USAFA is tracking about a week behind last year. Using last year as a basis, which is not always a good predictor, next week should be big also. I'm guessing this is the first week of the two week wave, again just guessing. Afterwards, it trickles down.

Although, looking back over the last 3 years, there always seems to be a small "mini-wave" in either April or May. May guess is that is USAFA rounding out the class and filling the spots that were declined.

My DD is still waiting for a nomination, her portal shows her as a candidate still, she has qualified DOD Med too. I really don't know what is going on since I thought the nominations needed to be in by Jan 31. We have not received any rejection notifications or have had any updates to portal since she was asked to view the Superintendent's video on honor code.

USAFA has been shut down the last two days. The roads are now open and not to bad at all. Tomorrow is another day! Still plenty of appointments coming. Still plenty of time to go.

Sadly, I have a friend who has gotten her TWE for USAFA C/O 2023, but she’s keeping her hopes up for USNA and ROTC if all else fails. But to answer your question, yes there have been at least a few that have received their TWE.

I'm just your ordinary college re-applicant giving it another go. Did a lot of research last year and asked a lot of questions to my ALO, other officers, counselors, etc. No personal/family connection to the academy or anyone in the Air Force whatsoever.
