FORM 13:
Hey, I've started knocking out my appointee papers because there's A LOT to do, and I'm on form 13, which is the form for who the USAFA can contact with my athletic, academic, disciplinary, etc. information. At the bottom of the packet there is an option to include my Congressmen. Is it generally something I should do to include both Senators and my Representative? Or should I just include the one who I am charged under (which I am not yet sure of, however I intend to find out through my ALO or some other source)? Is there any reason not including any of them would be advisable? Thanks!

P.S. I left this open ended because I am sure I will have more questions and I think it would be much simpler if I just updated this thread rather than creating a new one. If that isn't the best option I can change it and created separate threads for everything. Thanks!

What do you mean by athletic, academic, and disciplinary contact information. I’m not appointed yet but just curious.

You get the form he talks about and it gives your consent to people such as your parents to view this information about you. If you don’t give consent to the academy, your parents and anyone else you may want to view this information will not be able to see. Hopefully that answers that.

On my form, I was wondering the same thing you are, so I am glad you asked. I asked my parents and they said to just leave it at my parents, so that is how I went about it. Congrats on the appointment!

Some congressmen take an active role in tracking how their "appointees" are doing at the SA's. If you include the MOC, s/he will receive occasional updates if you do something noteworthy as a cadet. DD did not include the MOC. I think it's mostly a non-issue.

Thanks! Still in the surreal faze, but I'm extremely excited! Congrats to you as well!

Alright, thanks!

Security Clearance Paperwork:
Does anyone know if it is okay to use white out on the security clearance application? I'd rather not start the whole page over if not absolutely necessary.

IMHO, is it best to download the form in PDF format and input your answers directly in the PDF document. You update as necessary and print a couple of copies before I-Day.

I have done this and I'm currently working on it, I'm about halfway through (although there are a couple of pages I have to redo). For things such as employment activities, I have only had 3 jobs and it gave room for 4 entries. It gives instructions on what to do if you don't have enough room, but not for if you have too much. Do I?
a) Leave it Blank
b) Take the page(s) out entirely b/c they're blank with the exception of my SS number signed at the bottom
c) Fill in N/A for everything (From what I understand, this isn't what they want, but that may be wishful thinking because I don't want to fill out four pages of "N/A" :p)

Option A, when that document gets turned in you don't want anything missing. Also it is not okay to use white out on any oficial paperwork, the way to correct a mistake if done in pen is to cross it out with ONE line, add the corretion then innitial and date the correction by the crossed out word or words.

Alright, thanks! I've never filled out something like this before so it's kinda a new experience!

In the past, you fill out the paper copy of the SF86 and take it with you on I-Day.
Later, either during BCT or first part of the academic year, you then input all that information into the electronic EQuip system SF86.
They want you to have all this information on hand so you don't have to call back home to fill in any missing information.

But most cadets realize they need clarification and call home to ask. Sometimes several times :) Note to parents reading, answer all calls during basic as it could be your kid.

Kind of separate question, but still related to the security clearance form. I've worked under-the-table for two businesses owned by family members, which for someone under 18 (which I am) isn't illegal to the best of my knowledge (of course the best of my knowledge is 10 minutes of searching on the internet) is legal, but it asks for any federal/state taxes not paid, is that somerhsom that counts since, by law, as someone under 17 and in a family business what I'm doing is legal?

Do you owe any federal or state taxes that you have not paid? The answer to that question should be your answer.

I'm not sure, I haven't paid any and I do work, so it's possible, but from what I've read about it, if you are under 18 (which I am) and work for family members for family businesses, then it is legal to be paid under the table. My understanding may be wrong, and if that's the case then yes, I owe taxes. I'm not sure that this applies to federal taxes, but at least to state taxes, I believe NY has an exception for under-the-table payments if it is for a family business and you're not legally an adult (18).

@t.reohr: Looks like you don't file Federal or State unless you made more then 12K. However, I would like to read the code which explains under-the-table payments being exempt! LOL Good Luck!

Small business owners who hire their children do not have to meet withholding or reporting requirements if the child does not exceed 18 years of age, but they must meet these requirements for older children. Children under the age of 21 who work in the family business do not have FUTA withheld from their cash payments. Family business owners who pay their children less than $50 per financial quarter to help with their business do not have to bother with reporting and withholding, regardless of age.

Sounds like the answer then is NO..no taxes owed.

You need to report the employments on your SF86.
You only report yourself for not filing/paying taxes when you were legally required to file/pay but did not.
