Appointment while at the overnight visit?

My son didn’t in January. In fact, his meeting with the officer of the day revealed no news at all. His appointment was given the next day.

My DD has her overnight visit at the beginning of April and will be coming from the SW. I was kind of hoping she would hear one way or the other before buying plane tickets. Looks like I’m going to have to bite the bullet before fares go up!

Can you buy a refundable ticket? Just in case...but hopefully she will have wonderfully good news by the time she arrives--although there is no guarantee. Also, she should treat the visit as a job interview...just in case she is still on the NWL.

We love Southwest for the ability to cancel and use those funds for future travel. And we purchase one ways to allow flexibility if one leg changes. There isn’t a savings for purchasing round trip on SW.

Im not familiar with USMA, but for USNA the CVW’s are for the benefit of the applicant to get a feel for the place. Do I infer correctly from your comment that your DD would not go if she received an appointment?

How do you get an over night visit? Does USMA ask you? Or do I request it? I’m still waiting on NWL, but would like to have an overnight visit. Does this mean my chance of appointment is less by not being offered an overnight visit?

You can request an overnight if you have an LOA or LOE... I believe.

Absolutely not. Many people without overnight visits receive appointments. I also have heard of people who received an LOE that did not get an appointment. It is just another tool that West Point uses. Do not fret over someone else having it and you not.

I have an LOE along with four nominations and still have not heard anything...just keeping my fingers crossed.

I went to an overnight visit that I was invited to. Many people received letters of assurance and letters of appointments for both USMA and USMAPS. I got mine a few weeks after.
