Hello, my state elected a new senator this past year, and the class of 2024 will be the first class that he will be nominating for. On his website it says the ENTIRE application (including recommendations) is due May 1 and those who requested nominations will be contacted later in the year to make an interview date. It should also be noted that he did not post his application until very recently (within past 2 weeks).
All other MOCs and the other senator do not have their applications due until Oct 1. I'm just wondering if this is a normal timeline for other states/MOCs? I was under the impression that September/October was the normal due date...

Wow that is early! May is not ‘normal’. I guess that getting it done early will get it taken care of. My concern would be kids that would miss the deadline BC they plan to start working on their applications after school is out (my own included). Good for you for checking early!

I would advise my own DS to reach out to staff to clarify. You could include you question with an introduction email.

That is not normal. I would contact the Senator’s office and politely ask for clarification on the date. Look up your other senator and representative deadlines and include that information in your inquiry.

If it were me, I'd treat this as an opportunity, not a problem. You have five weeks to get it done and I doubt that many other candidates will be ready that early. Raise questions if you want to but work like hell to get your application completed.

Let us know what you find out if you do follow up !

I am with Stealth and contact the Sen. office. as in tomorrow.

May 1st is insane impo especially since the SAs only open their PCQ in March.

If they truly have May 1st, than do what OldRetSWO stated, get it done.
~ It might be to your advantage from a competitive pool aspect. Most candidates are not even thinking about a nom at this point as a junior in HS.

I have a funky feeling that this might be the only yr that he has a May cut off date, if it is not a mistake on their website. I can hear candidates and parents screaming now.
~ How can you demand this when...
~~ Many jrs are taking their SAT/ACT in May and June
~ ~ TWEs usually go out mid April for this yrs class (2023).

I agree with OldRetSWO. I would complete the application by the May 1 deadline and treat it as an opportunity.
